A Contra Reboot May Be Coming

Reboots are all the rage these days. From Castlevania to Tomb Raider to Devil May Cry, franchises have been getting rebooted more and more lately. And now it sounds like the Contra series might be getting rebooted as well. It's not official that it's happening, but some high-up people at Konami have shown some interest in a new Contra. Among these people is head of development at Konami EU Dave Cox, who said in a recent interview that Konami would like MercurySteam - developers behind the Castlevania reboot - to work on the project."I don’t want to be known as Mr. Castlevania, and we don’t want the team to be known as the Castlevania team. Working in a creative industry, you’ve got other projects and other ideas you want to work on," Cox said. "And that’s something that we and MercurySteam want to do. We want to work on other projects. We've got other ideas."
He went on to show his interest in a reboot to the Contra series, saying that "I love Contra. I’d love to do Contra. At MercurySteam we’ve got an original idea that I think is really awesome. We’d love to bring that idea to market and I’m hoping that the success of Lords of Shadow 2 will allow us to do that.”
It's been a while since we saw a new Contra game. In fact, remember that teaser trailer at last year's E3? Konami showed it off during their press conference, but we've heard nothing about the game since. Could this reboot be the return to Contra we were teased last year? Only time will tell. Well, that and Konami and MercurySteam could tell us. But until they do, we'll have to once again play the waiting game...
Would you like to see the Contra series get rebooted? Do you think it'd be a good idea, or not?

Honestly, I'd rather it not be on 3DS. I really didn't like the screen split in Contra 4.
Do they have some collection out there where you get the other contra games?
