Anarchy Reigns Delayed; A Surprise to Platinum Games As Well

Beat 'em up game, Anarchy Reigns, can't seem to catch a break. The brawler title has been constantly getting hit with delays, and now Sega has pushed it back yet again. This time, we're seeing a release window of Q1 2013 for both North America and Europe. Ouch. No reason was offered for the far off date. And it's definitely not due to development issues, either, with this next piece of information.

Platinum Games, the developer for Anarchy Reigns, also seems surprised by this announcement. Producer Atsushi Inaba has given his explanation for the delay:

"First of all, we are done with all international versions of Anarchy Reigns. The delay is not due to further development on the game."

"Today's Q1 2013 release news was the first we'd heard of it. Even if we wanted to, we can't comment as we're (still) in the dark officially."

The Japanese release should still be taking place on July 5th as originally planned.

I really can't think of a single reason to delay the game. There is nothing coming out in July, it's a perfect time for the game.

Sega is also releasing Rhythm Thief in July... Now I'm scared they'll delay that for no reason at all, too

I think it got delayed so they can probably work on voice acting, translations, and probably some tweaking for us. I'm bummmed that this was delayed because this looks really fun and unique. I'm hoping they will give us a demo for the story or multiplayer. It sucks for us to wait, but they should look at the other games that are being released with their time. I agree it should be out in July and don't see why not.

TK, the game is done. Completely. There is nothing else to be done to it. It's translated and everything.

I wonder if SEGA delayed it because it's having financial troubles that it won't tell anyone about. Either that or they're just being incredibly stupid. I'm not sure which as it's inconceivable to delay a finished game that's as highly anticipated as Anarchy Reigns. Who knows, maybe they're worried about lackluster sales from a lack of promotion or something.
