Final Fantasy Creator's Latest Game Is Almost Finished

While Final Fantasy series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi's latest RPG epic The Last Story (which as been out in Japan for a year and a half now) is nearing its release in North America, his team at Mistwalker has been working on something decidedly very different from their usual projects.

Say hello to his newest title: an action surfing game for iOS called Party Wave.

For those who aren't aware, Sakaguchi lives in Hawaii, so naturally one of his biggest hobbies is surfing.

In regards to the title, he commented on its meaning and the game's inspiration on its website, saying:

"When surf is small and many are surfing, surfers sometime catch the same wave and call out 'Party Wave!' When I heard those voices, I decided to make this game where game players can experience the shared fun of surfing."

Sounds interesting enough! From the trailer, it looks like much of the gameplay is based on avoiding obstacles and sea creatures in the surf while keeping your surfers in the air and free from danger. Additionally, it looks as if the game features different minigames apart from the main mode, and even a few boss battles (including one with a jellyfish) as well.

It's definitely interesting to see Sakaguchi and Mistwalker produce a game that's mostly outside of their usual expertise, but Party Wave looks to be an interesting and fun little title. Hopefully Mistwalker will be able to bring it to North American iPhones sometime soon.

Well that's cool to hear and all. But can they release FF versus for us? They know everyone been waiting for that game.

Unfortunately, Sakaguchi and Mistwalker have nothing to do with Square-Enix anymore; he separated from the company in 2003. You'll have to ask Yoichi Wada or Tetsuya Nomura if you want answers about FF Versus XIII. ;)
