Square Enix announces Kingdom Hearts 3 is coming in 2018, Toy Story world announced

Kingdom Hearts 3 PS4 Xbox One Kingdom Hearts

Today's D23 Expo brought with it a number of pretty big announcements, making it one of the more memorable Disney expos in recent years, but perhaps the biggest announcement for many video games was the revealing of a new world in Kingdom Hearts 3. Oh, and its official release window.

Joining previously revealed worlds -- Hercules, Tangled, and Big Hero 6 -- is the first Pixar-based one: Toy Story. In keeping with the theme of having Sora fit into each world in a special way, both he, Donald, and Goofy will be appearing as a toy version of themselves -- with all three having a thin, blocky aesthetic.

The question is, will Tom Hanks and Tim Allen reprise their roles as Woody and Buzz in this game? I could see Allen, but who knows if Square Enix could muster up enough money to get Tom Hanks. Guess we'll see.

Oh, and that release window? Earlier than you may have thought. The new trailer that was shown off reveals that the game is being planned for release next year. Yup, 2018.

Now that doesn't mean that it won't be delayed, but at least we know Square Enix is getting serious when they start to put a real release window out there. There's also the fact that series creator Tetsuya Nomura mentioned that Square Enix doesn't want a year to go by without a Kingdom Hearts release, and with the recent release of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue and Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX and no other titles planned beside Kingdom Hearts 3... the math appears to add up for next year.

Be sure to check out the newest trailer for the game below.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is set to release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One next year.

ARE YOU EXCITED FOR... *ahem* are you excited for Toy Story in Kingdom Hearts 3? Also, how about that 2018 release date? Think it'll happen?

Man I am so glad to finally get a release date. I hope it's not December 31, 2018 lol. I am guessing a Fall release most likely like when FFXV released and next year's E3 will reveal the complete game. As for the voice cast returning it would be awesome to see Hanks and Allen return. I read that Tom Hank's brother actually does the voices for him in filling in roles in games, TV shows, or anything in the side Toy Story projects. Anyways I'm hyped up for Toy Story world!

Also another random thing I read in the comments; It will be 13 years since KH2 released. Notice 13? Organization XIII? Wonder if this is intentional lol.

I believe KH3 is coming in 2018 like Buzz Lightyear believes he is actually a toy. I think Squenix got it confused with a year that isn't next year.

The game is still looking pretty sharp, but if I let myself get too excited about it now I'll stop caring about it by the time it actually does come out since that's what happened with FFXV. Unless, I guess, it does actually come out next year...crazier things have happened, right?

OMG the hype is real. This game looks amazing. That part in Toy Story looks like it'll be freaking awesome and really fun to play. Can't wait. I have only played KH 1 so I need to play all the other ones to catch up. That is a monumental task though but I'll be up for it one day haha. Many, Woody and Buzz just doesn't sound right without Tom and Woody as the voice actors. They need to bring them back.

As much as I like seeing more and more information on this game, and even more so that they announced what seems like it'll be a great world, Kingdom Hearts III is starting to worry me. Each trailer they've shown off has been excessively flashy, showcasing more than a handful of zoom ins and overly cinematic events during what seems to only be a simple random encounter. Don't get me wrong, this kinda stuff can be neat, but like...I don't wanna see this sorta thing every single time I get into a fight with Heartless or Nobodies. It just seems like it'd be a waste of time, to me.
