Nintendo Announces 3DS XL For Release In August

UPDATE: Various sites are reporting that the 3DS XL will include an AC adapter after all.

NOA President Reggie Fils-Aime revealed in a Nintendo Direct presentation earlier tonight that a hardware refresh is on the way for 3DS, and much like the larger version of the DS, it'll be called the 3DS XL.

Among its features are larger screens; the top screen in particular will be 4.88 inches, giving a 90% increase in size over the previous iteration, and the touch screen will be 4.18 inches.

Another long awaited addition will be increased battery length, which is said to last between 3.5 and 6.5 hours. Also included will be a 4GB SD card. The XL will not come with an AC adapter, but it will be compatible with the 3DS's and DSi XL's adapters.

It will be available in both red and blue colors when it launches on August 19th (the same day New Super Mario Bros. 2 releases) for $199.99.

Welp. That's one i won't be buying. I'll stick to my original 3DS for now. It looks nice though, especially the larger screen. I never cared for the battery life.
That thing looks huge going by the picture, it almost looks tablet size. I can't say I'm surprised by the announcement, we all knew that a 3DS revision was going to happen. I guess they decided to skip the "lite" version and just go straight to the XL. I still don't think I'm going to buy it, even though I think the bigger screens will make for a better playing experience at the cost of portability.
It still baffles me that don't include a second joystick pad. It has enough room now for the blasted thing.
Wait wait wait....I think we've just seen the new WiiU tablet controller. This is totally a reality now that no human can escape. Nintendo just royally screwed over its customers! MWUAHAHAHA!

On a serious note, I'm going to pass. My original 3DS is plenty big enough for me to enjoy my stuff.
The only way I'd buy one is if you could transfer your 3DS purchases to it, but I doubt that will happen.
I do believe Nintendo has a transfer system in place, but it requires you to have both systems at the same time.
I'll have to look into that then. I know you can't transfer anything on the Wii.

You can transfer all your downloadable games, etc up to 4 times i believe. But much like 905 said, you need 2 systems to do it.
