Remote Downloads Available for Steam

A new game comes out on Steam, but you have plans, then you have to wait for it to download, then by the time it's done, you won't have any time to play it. We've all been there. Steam's current client beta offers a new way, a better way. Or, at least, a different way that might help a few people who get into that situation. With remote downloads, problem shouldn't be a problem any more.

Steam's forums were the... uh... forum for Valve's announcement of a new Steam beta client with the following updates:

- Remote management of your games library through the web or mobile device
- Reduced excessive system memory usage while downloading updates in some cases
- Added debug code to diagnose download issues

Everyone loves debugging, and of course reducing resource usage is always popular, but the real star child here is the remote management of games. Basically, with the web or mobile version of Steam, users can begin downloads for games on their home computers.

Obviously, that computer will have to be online and logged in to Steam.

This probably doesn't solve the biggest inconveniences ever, but it's definitely useful for people who want to get some gaming in, but have to manage their time carefully.

It's available now, so check it out. Instructions on how to begin the downloads can be found here.
