PS4 Games Won't be Increasing in Price
Feb 22 2013 12:50 PM | Marcus Estrada in Sony

One thing that tends to crop up around new console launches is the fear that games for the new system will cost more. Although games have historically declined in retail price, more recently we have seen them climbing back up. For example, the current generation has seen the previous norm of $50 games shift up to $60 with both the PS3 and 360. Similarly, both the Vita and 3DS added $10 onto game costs.Thankfully, it doesn't appear that PS4 prices will rise from the standard $60 on PS3. SCEA CEO Jack Tretton told CNBC this:
"We're going to welcome free-to-play models, games from $.99 up to those $60 games."
With that said, the system is not looking to increase overall price, but further expand the price range for games. Of course, no one should expect that retail games will be on the low end of pricing spectrum. Instead, those are probably digital titles which offer paid extras or are simply upgraded versions of mobile games. Also, none of this rules out companies crafting even more exorbitantly priced special editions.
What is the ideal price for a video game? How much would games have to cost for you to not purchase them new?
