Vita Getting PSone Classics Soon

When the Vita was coming out gamers were handed the unfortunate news that not all their PSN purchases would work on the device. Some of the digital PSP games wouldn't run, but more than that, absolutely no PSone Classic games would play. During Sony's E3 conference we were told that this functionality would be coming at some point. Now Sony has given more information about this upcoming functionality.

Today Sony Computer Entertainment Japan (SCEJ) announced the firmware number which would include PSone Classics being playable on Vita. They did this alongside the announcement of finally bringing PS2 games to the Japanese PSN (US and Europe have already had some available since last year). This upcoming firmware is 1.8 and is expected out this summer.

That's all we know so far but hopefully SCEA will back up the statement soon with more information. No doubt there are some gamers out there who just want to play PS1 games on their fancy little Vitas.

It's about time. Sony made a huge mistake not having this feature at launch.
