Source Filmmaker to be Released This Year

Valve have been busy this week between Pyromania and their Adult Swim crossover, but they still found time to launch a closed beta. No, it's not for a game, unfortunately, but for something else which may interest many gamers all the same. The currently closed beta is for the Source Filmmaker program.

What does it do? A whole lot of things that this video may help you to understand:

So Steam Filmmaker is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. It's the program Valve uses to make the majority of their animated shorts. Did you watch the Meet the Pyro video today? Yeah, that was made with the program. It features a lip-syncing system, editing of Source asset animation, and pretty much everything you might ever want to do with it.

This program is a free utility which will come out of closed beta later this year. If you're interested in possibly getting the tool early, then sign up here.

That looks amazing and much better then any crummy game. But is it only for TF2 and other Valve games because that is a bit limited and get boring after a while.
I'll never be able to use it like the professionals, but that doesn't mean I don't want it. Signing up for the beta now.
