Steam for Schools Helps Educators Teach with Portals

Steam has been a common name in the gaming world for a while and is hoping to make a similar splash in the world of teaching. Valve has launched a school-centric version of Steam, called Steam for Schools, which educators are free to use. It isn't the same client that we're all used to though, and instead is a bit stripped down and comes with Portal 2.

Portal 2's puzzle creation tools seem like a good fit for a teaching tool. This special version of Steam doesn't just grant access to the game though, it also comes with education-based puzzles and possible lesson plans. Teacher-created puzzles, plans, and the like can be shared through a special Teaching with Portals forum too. So, as long as some educators use it then they'll probably never be lacking for fresh content.

Although Steam for Schools currently only supports Portal 2 it makes sense that it may expand its library if this initial release is a success. Although the initiative is free, in order to join you must be able to provide some credentials about being an educator. Hopefully Steam for Schools has a positive reception because it seems like something many students will enjoy.
