Remember A Hat in Time? The Super Mario 64-like platformer was announced four years ago, and even appeared on one of our most anticipated games lists way back when. It also raised close to $300K on Kickstarter. Yowza.
In any event, the team at Gears for Breakfast has been busily working on the game ever since, and though it's taken longer than initially expected, the game is finally ready to release this Fall.
As mentioned above, A Hat in Time is a 3D collect-a-thon platformer in the same spirit as Super Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie where you play as the titular 'Hat Kid.' In the game's story, time is collapsing, and you must race to collect time pieces before your nemesis, 'Mustache Girl,' can collect them for her own nefarious purposes.
Gears for Breakfast has also announced that the game will provide mod support for the following:
- Full level editor
- Full script access
- Full Steam Workshop support
- Add a hat
- Add two hats
- Add a lot of hats
- Add new chapters
- Add new enemies
- Make a game inside a game
- Make a game inside a game, that is inside a game
Two very specific cool things that are already slated to appear in the game are Lilac's Headpiece (from Freedom Planet 2) and Raz's Psychic Helmet (from Psychonauts 2). You can expect to see a lot more cameo items from other games as well.
A Hat in Time will be launching on October 5 for PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
Are you excited to play A Hat in Time after all these years?
