Metroidvania-based Iconoclasts bringing intense action gameplay to PS4, Vita and Steam tomorrow

Jason Clement

If you love Metroidvania games and/or titles with beautiful, hand-drawn animation; or even games with lots of intense action-packed moments (i.e. Metal Slug or Mega Man), be sure to pay extra special attention to Iconoclasts, which releases tomorrow on a handful of platforms.

Made by Joakim Sandberg, an indie game developer best known for his work on Noitu Love 1 and 2 as well as his animation work on past Wayforward titles (such as Shantae: Risky's Revenge and Shantae and the Pirate's Curse), Iconoclasts looks to be Sandberg's biggest and most impressive game to date (having been in development for seven years).

The game stars Robin, a mechanic who wants to help other people, as she navigates a word in conflict that she's seeking to put back together and fix. Check out the trailer below!

Iconoclasts releases tomorrow, January 23rd, on PlayStation 4, PS Vita, and PC (via Steam).

What are your thoughts on Iconoclasts? Are you interested in playing it?

I just read Destructoid's review and they handed it a 9.5, so I might end up checking it out sooner than later. I'll definitely play it at some point, at least.

Seems pretty cool! I'd like to see a little more gameplay before I'm sold, but hey, the art style seems pretty freaking cool I'd say!
