Forza Horizon 3 dev expanding into other genres with new team

Jason Clement

Playground Games is one of the biggest and most successful newer developers in the game industry today -- many fans and critics alike even believe their Forza Horizon series has gone on to match and eclipse the main Forza series in quality, especially with last year's Forza Horizon 3.

So it comes as no surprise to hear that the studio is creating a brand new team to expand into other genres beyond racing. Playground Games' Ralph Fulton recently stated to Develop that the team felt that they had achieved what they had set out to do when the studio first arrived on the development scene in 2010.

Following a bit of introspection, Fulton explained that the studio realized they wanted to expand beyond just racing games and experiment with other genres. Hence, a brand new team to help realize that vision.

“We“re hiring for and have hired for a brand new team here in Leamington, a triple-A team, it“ll easily be 100 plus people and we“re super, super excited about that,"
Fulton told Develop.

While the actual project remains a mystery right now, the career page on the studio's site mentions the game will be a "large-scale AAA title," possibly referencing an open-world action title.

Fulton mentioned that it would probably be a while before they can start to talk about what the game entails, so don't expect any details anytime soon. However, Playground Games' pedigree has been increasingly impressive as the years roll on, so this may be one game to keep an eye on as time progresses.
