In a somewhat surprising move, Microsoft's Phil Spencer has confirmed that Xbox Entertainment Studios, which handles original video production programming, will be closing in the next few months. The change comes about as CEO Satya Nadella attempts to refocus Microsoft on productivity, cloud, and mobile, though he also reaffirmed his commitment to Xbox.
This move will reduce a significant portion of planned programming, but work on the recently announced Halo: Nightfall television series and the Atari documentary Signal to Noise will continue on. Also, it will not affect NFL partnerships, apps, and the delivery of television to Xbox One from cable partners.
