Big news coming out of Microsoft's press conference at Gamescom 2014 in Cologne today, and perhaps the biggest piece yet is the revelation that the much-anticipated Tomb Raider sequel, Rise of the Tomb Raider, will in fact be exclusive to Xbox One.
Crystal Dynamic's Darrell Gallagher spoke out on the announcement and what it means for the brand.
"We believe this will be a step to really forging the Tomb Raider brand as one of the biggest in gaming, with the help, belief and backing of a major partner like Microsoft," Gallagher mentioned.
"This doesn“t mean that we“re walking away from our fans who only play on PlayStation or on PC. Those are great systems, with great partners, and amazing communities. We have Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris coming to those platforms this December, and Tomb Raider: The Definitive Edition is available on PS4."
What isn't entirely clear is if Rise of the Tomb Raider will be exclusive for to Xbox One for life or if it's a timed exclusive. GTTV's Geoff Keighley has mentioned that the official line given to press is that the game is "exclusive to Xbox One for holiday 2015," giving possibly some hope to fans that they may eventually see it come to PC and PS4 sometime after that.
For now, we'll have to wait and see. In the meantime, Rise of the Tomb Raider is set for release only on Xbox One this upcoming holiday season.
