While Yooka-Laylee has been out on nearly every other platform since May, Playtonic Games is still hard at work on the Nintendo Switch version. What seems to be the holdup, you ask?
In a new update shared on their site today, Playtonic mentioned that they've been experiencing technical difficulties with porting the game to Switch, and that they were waiting for Unity 5.6 to help clear some of them up. Unfortunately, though, the Unity update has introduced new hurdles that they're working with Unity to correct.
While Playtonic says they're trying to get the game to run as well as possible before shipping it out, they do mention they're "very nearly there," and that once the issues are cleared up, then they can share the release date.
It's nice to finally get word from the studio about the game considering they've been silent about it for a while, but one has to wonder if the extra time and frustration it's taken to get the Switch version working will be worth it in the end. However, a number of indie games have reported higher sales on Switch than other platforms since its debut earlier this year, so it would seem there's hope for Yooka-Laylee yet.
