Two Tribes B.V., the Dutch developer behind last year's Toki Tori 2+, Rush, and Edge, has announced that the company they once were is no more. However, this isn't quite the end just yet.
The good news is Two Tribes Publishing B.V., which owns and publishes the games and handles contracts etc., is still intact, and co-founders Martijn Reuvers and Collin van Ginkel have announced that a new daughter company will be formed and will handle all future development of titles. Despite this, all of the old staff from Two Tribes B.V. has been let go, and a new, smaller staff will proceed with future projects.
So what's the cause of Two Tribe's demise? The blog post explaining the situation mentions that it was mostly due to the development of Toki Tori 2 taking way longer than expected and not selling to expectations.
For now, the next game in development at the new Two Tribes is a 2D sidescrolling shooter built on the same engine created for Toki Tori 2. Expect to hear more from the new company about the project over the course of the year.
