The little guy seems to have been trampled by the bigger guy once again. Zynga apparently could not stand having their apps toppled by Draw Something and its huge appeal. So, instead, they decided to buy out OMGPOP.
Just like Zynga bought out the devs of Words with Friends thanks to overwhelming success, OMGPOP is now part of the Zynga dynasty.
“The OMGPOP team has created a game that“s fun, expressive and engenders real social interaction,†said Zynga CEO Mark Pincus. “Draw Something has captured the imagination of millions of people around the world. We love the way they“ve worked playful and relevant culture into their games from Devo to Daft Punk, from Lin to Beckham. We“re honored to have the opportunity to partner with and support such an innovative team of creative inventors.â€
There is not an official pricetag on this buyout just yet, but some say it was about $200 mil. Nothing to sneeze at and high enough to let the OMGPOP team retire comfortably.
OMGPOP's next game, The Street was due out next week but there's no word about the plans for that after this buyout.
