Meet the Podunkers is a new blog series I“ve started intended to feature members of the community, a sort of gamer spotlight if you will. I will try and have a new interview posted weekly, until I run out of willing members to feature!
Today“s interviewee is the member who owns a gigantic figure of his handle's namesake, Rex705!
What's the first game you've ever played?
Well I can't remember exactly what was first but it was probably Super Mario Bros. for NES it was like the most popular game back then.
Describe your current gaming setup.
I have a PS2, PS3, PSP, Game Cube, Wii U, GBA, 360 and my PC. Currently I have my PS2, 360 and Wii U hooked up next to my 50 inch plasma TV and my super computer that plays all games on max settings with games from Steam, Origin and Desura. I am starting to move into the digital age and PC gaming.
Name the one game that changed your life, that is, what's the one game that made you into the gamer you are today?
I guess that would be Xenosaga on PS2. Before playing that every game was the same thing go here and shoot this guy end of story and it was fun but never changed. Then one day I got my hands on Xenosaga my very first RPG and I saw that games could be so much more then what I had been playing and really opened my eyes to everything the gaming world has to offer.
What is your all-time favorite game EVER?
I can never choose just one single game so I'll give what I like to call Perfect Grade games. That's a term I stole from my Gundam models Perfect Grade being super realistic models with millions of tiny parts and every spec of detail with moving parts the best of the best.
FF 7-9, Xenosaga 1-3 Metal Gear Solid: The twin snakes, Growlanser 2-3 Shadow Hearts 1-2, Legend of heroes: A tear of vermillion and Legend of dragoon.
How about your favorite character?
I have a few of these as well and they are Dante from DMC, Albedo from Xenosaga and Wesker from Resident Evil.
What's your story? How'd you end up on Game Podunk?
Well I found a cool website that sold a lot of old hard to find games like Xenogears and on that site was an ad for GP and it's contests so I clicked it. I signed up for the contest to win a console and planned on leaving after that but the rules for the contest said you had to be an active member in the forum and the more active the higher chance you have. Well I didn't win the contest but I had become so active with the GP community I didn't want to leave and so here I am.
Some may not know it, but you have one of the bigger gaming collections here on this site. Are you an avid collector or do you just play a lot of games? Favorite genre to collect/play?
Well the secret to my collection is Xenosaga. Back in the day I only had a small hand full of games and I just replayed them over and over until one day I played a demo of Xenogears that led me to Xenosaga and after that I just went out and bought every RPG I could find and my collection blew up. Now I just buy every game that looks good even if I end up never playing them like half of my collection. Maybe one day I'll get to them but no more replays for me.
Graphics or gameplay, in your opinion, which is more important?
Well I guess gameplay because classics like PS1 RPG's are a lot better then some of the games we have today. Just because a game looks nice doesn't mean it's fun and if it's not fun then what's the point?
What is one change you'd like to make to gaming as a whole?
Price? If everything was free that would be really cool. Maybe change how online gaming works and just make a simple easy to use system for people to start a game and join friends instead of all the complicated and broken set ups that crazy people come up with these days.
Which 3 people, dead or alive, would you want to play a game with? Which game?
I could play Metal Gear with Kojima and have him tell me all about the characters and world in the game. Maybe some creators of games that annoyed me so i can throw the controller at them and make them play it.
It's the zombie apocalypse, which person, weapon and music would you have during your final stand?
Swords are my weapon of choice as you can see in the post your collection thread and metal music is my favorite and really fits well. A samurai master of the blade would be the perfect partner because swords have unlimited ammo.
Anything else you'd like to add?
I'll end with a funny quote from a game.
“Oh, hi. So, how are you holding up? BECAUSE I'M A POTATO!†(Portal 2)
What did you think of this interview? Is there anything else you'd like to ask Rex?
