Phantasy Star Universe

I finished playing the game last winter and just wanted to say it was a decent RPG, but not the best it could have been. I feel that there was a great deal of potential lost, in terms of story and character development. The gameplay was typical fun, but the battlemode could get tedious if you weren't playing it online mode where you interact with others more.
(Perhaps I should write a review for this game too)

Don't get me wrong though. I still liked the game. (Of course, I could just be bias cause I love my Phantasy Star series.) It just seems that the game was more geared towards online players as an MMORPG and not enough attention was given to the gameplay for those playing the game as a typical RPG.

Anyone played the game and liked it?

I hear ya Phantasy Star series is not what it used to be or what is could be. SEGA needs to bring back the old Sega Genesis theme and feel with today's graphics.

Yeah, I know. I still liked the single player, though. It should have had a splitscreen, at least. Also, online is $15 a month, and now PSO is free (after they closed the servers LOL)

Has anyone seen the flash comics online for the PSU: Ambitions of Illuminus?

What's everyone favorite race? I like the newmen. (don't go blabbering about how they suck, ok?)

Hahaha. They're actually my favorite too! *bias again, cause my favorite character in the Phantasy Star series was the first newman.*

But, in all seriousness, I must say I enjoyed the personality of Ethan Wader and Hyuga Right, and especially Pete. It wasn't the best of stories, but it was better than PSO's (assuming you didn't go online,do the extra quests, or read all of Red Ring Rico's messages). And it wasn't as cliche as some games I've played. Sure, it wasn't a FF or Tales worthy story, but it made it.

Oh yea, I agree on that. I definitely liked Ethan as a main character. I wish the story was a bit longer and larger in scale as some FF, but since PSU was focusing more on the online gameplay + sidequests, it's probably wasn't a priority in their development. The single player mode was probably just an icing on the cake.

Also, I do extra mode for the fun of being different races. For example, my top two best in the game are my Beast Tikal and my Newman Sacura. They are exact opposites, but the contrast the playing is great.

It's smart to vary your party members, you have the best of all worlds, so to speak. The PSU: Ambitions of Illuminus, doesn't have an offline story or game to play through. That's pretty sad, I think.
