When PC case fans go bad...

Recommended Posts

So my PC's rear 120mm fan has finally started making grinding noises today. I looked up the symptoms and it looks like the bearings are probably shot.

I've heard that you can use a light machine oil to lubricate the fan and get rid of the noise, but I'm wondering how long that solution lasts.

If you've ever dealt with this issue before, did you try to treat the fan yourself? Or did you just buy an entirely new one?

I replaced my fans when I snapped off a blade and stepped on one >_< they are super cheap so no big deal. I have never had a fan break down and grind on me. I use Cooler master fans with lights.

Have you opened it up? Clean it out and made sure it wasn't like hitting on any wires?
