TV series Krypton picked up by Syfy

Recommended Posts

If you hadn't heard yet, it looks like the Superman prequel TV series Krypton was picked up by Syfy!

Krypton is supposedly set two generations before the events where Krypton is destroyed and focuses on Superman's grandfather. Apparently the House of El has been wronged and shamed in some way, and the show is about his attempts to rectify that as well as save his world from chaos. Something like that anyhow.

Sounds interesting, but I wonder if it'll turn into another Gotham (a show that's somewhat hurt by not having the actual superhero on the show due to being a prequel to those events).

Also interesting - David Goyer is exec producing, and the guy behind Sleepy Hollow will serve as showrunner.

What do you guys think? Are you interested in this at all?

This seems like it would make more sense as a TV movie than a series. I mean, how long can you really keep "Superman's grandad wants people to like him again" fresh? At least with Gotham they probably have the crime drama element since it focuses on Gordon (I haven't watched it so I have no idea, I'm just assuming) and you wanna stay tuned to see how the case is solved. With this it's kinda like "oh, he's trying to prevent chaos on his world that probably leads to it being destroyed, which we know happens anyway, so what's the point?" I'm probably wrong, I mean, obviously they'll find some way to keep it interesting, but I can't think of any way that would compel me to watch it.

I don't know... I'm cautiously optimistic. I didn't like Smallville, so I'm hoping it will be better than that. I don't know if it being on SyFy is a good thing. I tried watching the SyFy series 12 Monkeys and it was pretty bad, especially compared to the movie which is really good. SyFy shows are like the really bad B Sci-fi movies from the 50s and 60s.

Uh, not really. The show isn't a police procedural and Gordon is really only a small focus and even when they do focus on him it is more about his conflicts, whether or not to do what is right as a police officer or do what benefits him, that kind of stuff.

If Gotham worked around Batman's pre years and Gordon's life then it can possibly work with Superman's family as well. I'm excited, but not too excited. I don't watch much SyFy television, but like mr.me said it's a place that has B-movie and shows. Cheesy good stuff, but not great. They have the best awful shows and movies. Hopefully the show turns out to be well budget and great. I wouldn't like a Superman Sharknado type budget lol.

It probably is worth checking out if you are into the origins stuff. I probably won't check this out though. Just superman isn't that big of a deal for me so I don't really care for it.

I don't like what they did with Gotham I want flipping Batman dang it. I probably wont be interested in this either and don't really care much for the OP Superman character. The movies are cool.

You get young Bruce who is always way in over his head. But he has a pretty good character development. Just feel like they have to try to fit young Bruce in so much. It is like he is only a couple of years from being Batman.
