The Movie Recommendation Station

Recommended Posts

TGWLTT is perhaps my all time favorite anime film. I laughed so hard, and was then so sad at the end, it really was a complete emmotional turn around I want to own it so badly, and to watch it again, but prices on the DVD and bluray have skyrocketed. It's making me consider buying a region free player just so I can import the MUCH more affordable region 2 disc, but I'm holding out hope it will get picked up for redistribution again. And until then there is always netflix I guess :(

I was able to get this from Rightstuf for about 15-20 dollars whenever they had a Bandai sale last year or two ago. Holy crap just looked through Amazon and the price indeed skyrocketed. I really wanted to the Limited Edition version too. Didn't think the movie would be rare to have limited copies and price hikes. Glad I got my copy before that happened. I wouldn't mind letting you borrow my copy. xD

very generous of you, but I think I should just keep looking. Eventually it has to show up somewhere, and when it does I'll be ready

Two quickies

Spring Breakers (2013)

P6w.jpg

Watched this a few months ago at this point, but figured I'd drop some lines about it. It's directed by Harmony Korine, who's done a lot of work with Larry Clark, acclaimed director behind Kids and Bully. So I thought it'd be in the same vein, and it kind of was. It was dark, very bizarre a bit twisted. Great cinematography but even still, I'm not a fan of this movie. I'd pass on it, especially if you're expecting a Girls Gone Wild type comedy movie.

The Bling Ring (2013)

new-bling-ring.jpg

Next up, The Bling Ring, a dark-ish comedy featuring Emma Watson and Taissa Farmiga (Violet from AHS) as it's two biggest stars, who are actually not the focal characters for the story. Story is a rendition of an actual series of events from a few years back where several young adults broke into Hollywood celebrities homes while they were away and stole millions in designer goods. The characters are all unlikable and shallow and it's very hard to watch as it's almost mind numbingly terrible. Coming from such an esteemed directing bloodline, I would have expected more from Sofia Coppola.

1681881-poster-1920-wreck-it-ralph-burie

Finally got around to watching Wreck-It Ralph (Which I only just recently picked up on Bluray) and I must say I very much enjoyed it. The movie looks fantastic and all the tie-ins and hidden (and not so hidden) references are great! I wish they had shown alittle more of the licensed characters and such since most were only brief cameos but I assume that was a licensing thing....

While the bluray looked great, there weren't really too many special features. The best special feature was definitely Paperman, one of those incredible Pixar shorts. There were a few deleted scenes, trailers and a "making of" featurette but nothing to write home about.

Would love to see a sequel, I'm sure they could make it happen :D

They actually did want to put Mario in, but Nintendo wanted a significant role for him and not just a cameo. Apparently if there's a sequel, the producers said they'll include some sort of supporting role for Mario in the movie. :o

Also, Paperman was actually done by Disney's animation studio! They did indeed do a great job with it. :)

Guys I watched the movie "Now You See Me" and I recommend this movie because it's so great. The story is about magic, 4 epic magicians gather together to make a team and perform unbelievable magics. After their shows they gave money to the audiences using their magics. The end of the movie is really surprising. Watch it and you won't be disappointed.

If you haven't read the book, I would say Ender's Game. It was a good movie to me. But a friend of mine who read some of the books thought the movie was terrible.

Guest ...

Speaking of Sofia Coppola Marie Antoinette is a good movie. Kind of like a take on teenagers with power in that era. Don't expect maximum historical accuracy though.
