If you haven't been watching, Gotham has been pretty good this season. I'd probably say it's the best the show has been so far, with major appearances by the Mad Hatter, the return of Jerome (who may or may not become the Joker), the Court of Owls, and a surprising turn of events between Oswald/The Penguin and Ed Nygma/The Riddler. Anyhow, the trailer for the rest of Season 3 dropped recently; take a look... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylvzMOPJNXk Looking pretty good if you ask me. It appears they're going to close out the season by focusing mainly on the Court of Owls and a showdown between Bruce and his evil clone. Also, pretty cool that Bruce will finally get a mentor that teaches him how to fight (besides Alfred) and such. ALSO ALSO, Hugo Strange is coming back! That's always cool. Less enthused about Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith). And was that clip of Selina laying on the floor an indication that she might've died but been brought back to life (one of nine lives), signifying her transformation into Catwoman? Should be interesting to see. What do you guys think of the midseason trailer?
Did anyone check out Gotham Season 2's first episode yet? Personally, I still find some of it very cartoonish (silly and/or over the top; hard to take serious), especially with the crazy guy who Gordon arrested early on, but overall I thought it was solid and a good indication of what's to come. Hopefully. If the preview for the first story arc is anything to go by, things are going to get pretty crazy over the next three episodes or so. It's actually interesting how much inspiration they're taking from The Dark Knight's playbook if you watch it. Er, I should mention there are spoilers here for anyone who didn't watch the last season to its finale. At this point, it's pretty safe to say that Gotham is positioning Jerome as the early version of the Joker. Honestly, it could go either way; I could also see them throwing a twist in where he dies unexpectedly at the end of this current arc, and maybe his entire act inspires some other kid to take his place later on. In any event, I'd say he's also just about the best part of this show at this point; the kid is a great actor for sure. There's heavy speculation that Barbara will become Harley Quinn. I think that will ultimately happen, though it's strange that she's older than Jerome if he becomes the Joker. I have to say, the one thing that really threw me since Gotham's beginning was Barbara's sudden change to being insane. It makes me wonder if that wasn't their plan with her at the start; I say that because a lot of people hated her character in the beginning, so maybe that made the writers think. I was kind of surprised to see that Bulloch had left the force; will this be his new status quo for the meantime? I mean, I suppose I can see Gordon coming to him for info and advice, but somewhere along the line he's going to have to come back as a detective. It's just a matter of when, not if. Also surprising - didn't Gordon have leverage over Commissioner Loeb in the form of knowing about his daughter? Why didn't he just threaten to expose her to the media when Loeb had him fired? Dunno if I missed something or forgot about something from last season, but I thought that was a bit strange and kind of a plot hole, honestly. It'll be interesting to see where they go overall this season. The trailer above makes a strong case for upcoming episodes, so we'll see what happens. What do you think of Gotham's second season so far?
So, this is pretty interesting. Check out the cast interview of Gotham for Season 3 below. One thing that was pretty surprising about this interview is that the cast actually gave fans a lot to go on. They mentioned that Mad Hatter would have a story arc early on, Leslie has a new boyfriend now, Fish Mooney is leading the Indian Hill "monsters," and Jim Gordon would be taking on the identity of a certain character or hero around mid-season. So who do you think Ben Mackenzie was referring to? Will Jim become the next Azrael? We know it won't be Batman since obviously Bruce Wayne thinks that guise up, but it'll be interesting to see who it is. My bet is that it might be... Also, I'm still surprised that they replaced little Poison Ivy's actor with someone much older already (seriously, the jump in age and appearance is pretty staggering; Cat/Selina doesn't look anywhere near as mature as this new Poison Ivy does). Anyhow, what do you guys think of all of this?
Anyone watching Gotham? So far I like it but can see that it could lose its direction before long. They may be trying too hard to mix fantasy and reality. After 3 episodes, I'd probably give it a 7/10 rating. Good enough for me to keep watching but I could see myself losing interest after a while. The cast is good...guess we'll see if they can improve in other areas.
