Jason Clement posted a article in Industry NewsIn a surprising move, developer Ken Levine announced today that he would be winding down Irrational Games in order to make way for a new endeavor that would incorporate a smaller team. "Initially, I thought the only way to build this venture was with a classical startup model, a risk I was prepared to take," Levine mentioned. "But when I talked to Take-Two about the idea, they convinced me that there was no better place to pursue this new chapter than within their walls. After all, they're the ones who believed in and supported Bioshock in the first place." For the staff that will be affected by the studio shutting down, Levine mentions that they will have a lengthy grace period and that they'll have a recruiting day so that other studios within the Take-Two umbrella (as well as other third-party studios) can potentially hire them. Amazingly enough, Irrational only released some seven games during their 17-year run. They are most famous for the System Shock series as well as for creating Bioshock and last year's hit Bioshock Infinite. It is not yet known which studio will take on Bioshock next, but the focus on that series will shift to one of Take-Two's other studios, possibly 2K Marin, which handled Bioshock 2. In the meantime, Levine's new venture will see him working on replayable narrative-driven games that will be released digitally only. Leah posted a article in Industry NewsYou might have heard about the recent controversy over the reveal of Bioshock Infinite's official cover art. Fans weren't happy with the stereotypical "guy with a big ol' gun", claiming that sort of thing isn't what Bioshock is all about. While Irrational Games won't be changing the official cover, they've taken note of your concerns and are offering the chance for you to vote on a reversible cover design. There are six different covers to choose from. Right now, design #4 is in the lead, while design #1 is dead last with only 5% of the votes. And if you want even more designs to choose from, then Irrational Games will be offering "a whole mess of MORE alternate covers" that will be available to download and print. Which alternate cover design is your favorite?
