Jason Clement posted a article in NintendoToday Nintendo officially confirmed that NES Remix 1 and 2 are coming as a physical version bound for retail later this year. Fans might remember that this was actually foreshadowed when it was announced that Japan would be getting a retail release earlier this year. The NES Remix games were previously only available on the Wii U eShop and featured remixed challenges from classic NES titles such as Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, and more. NES Remix 2 added even more titles with the likes of Super Mario Bros. 3, Metroid, Kirby's Adventure, and others. No price has been announced for the collection just yet, but it seems likely that a budget price will be in effect ($20-30) given each games' $15 price tag on the Wii U eShop. It won't be long before NES Remix 2 descends upon the Wii U eShop, but while you're waiting, Nintendo has revealed some new information about the game. Specifically, there's a new Championship mode which follows the same formula as the original Nintendo World Championship game from 1990. Like the original, this mode will challenge players to achieve the highest cumulative score in three specific games using a multiplier-based scoring system. And while Super Mario Bros. remains as one of the three games in the challenge, the other two have been updated as Super Mario Bros. 3 and Dr. Mario. The resulting scores from your runs in Championship Mode can then be posted on Miiverse so you can compete with others. Unfortunately, this mode does require you to have the first NES Remix downloaded as well. But even if you don't have that one, NES Remix 2 is chock-full of newly added challenges from later games in the NES era like Super Mario Bros. 3, Kirby's Adventure, Metroid, and more. It's set to release later this month on the Wii U eShop on April 25.
NES Remix was a surprising little title that was announced and released on the same day at the end of December, so it's a little surprising to hear talk of a sequel in the works already from today's Nintendo Direct. This second title in the series will feature more NES classics like Super Mario Bros. 3, Metroid, and Kirby's Adventure, and includes even more remixed and modified elements to the games to shake the gameplay up further. Also new to this version is a new twist on Super Mario Bros. called Super Luigi Bros. in which Luigi takes on Mario's role but must play through the game by running to the left instead of to the right. Despite its sudden announcement, NES Remix 2 is still a few months away from release on the Wii U eShop, which will be April 25, and it'll release once again for $14.99.
