Fatal Frame II on PSN Finally Receives Fix

Back on May 7th, Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly launched on PSN as a PS2 Classic. As far as most of us were concerend, it was cool to see the Tecmo Koei game getting attention again. Those who purchased and downloaded it however came across a multitude of issues trying to play the game. Thanks to the careful eye of Rely on Horror we see that a patched version of the game has just been launched on PSN. This update coincided with today's PS Store update. If you already downloaded Fatal Frame II before then you will have to completely delete it though before downloading the new version. Players who were interested in but forgot about this PS2 Classic release should now feel safe in purchasing a copy. It costs $9.99 on PSN and the first game in the series is also available.

Could Seaman Return on a Nintendo System?

Stranger things have happened, but if there's one thing we weren't expecting it was the possibility of a Seaman resurgence. If you're not familiar with the name it was that of a game on the Dreamcast where your goal was to take care of a pet fish and speak to it using a microphone. Oh, and the fish had a face and could talk. The freaky fish was voiced by Leonard Nimoy. Although this game came to America, Seaman 2 on PS2 was relegated to Japan. However, it was a far different sort of adventure where you cared for a Peking Man rather than a fish. Years later, Nintendo has secured two trademarks which heavily imply they have a new Seaman game in the works. These two are: "Mysterious Pet: Legend of the Fish With A Human Face and Mysterious Partner: Legend of the Fish With A Human Face". Now, these recently registered trademarks could be for something other than Seaman, but it doesn't seem too likely. "Fish With A Human Face" just jumps out as seeming to explicitly point to it. In either case, they were filed by Nintendo of Japan. Did you ever play Seaman on Dreamcast?

Capcom vs SNK 2 Finally Appears on PS2 Classics

It has been a long time coming but fighting fans will soon be able to buy Capcom vs SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium on the PS Store. The latest PS2 Classic release is incredibly timely, as fighting game championship EVO 2013 just concluded over the weekend. This title was initially made for the arcade before seeing releases across multiple platforms. In the US we saw it first in 2001 on PS2 before being followed by GameCube and Xbox versions. With a fairly massive roster of 44 characters, it was a much-loved fighter. As usual, we'll see Capcom vs SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium hit PSN tomorrow. Interested players can pick it up for $10. Are you going to download Capcom vs SNK 2?

Latest PS2 Classics Update Adds Castle Shikigami 2

Have you been itching for PlayStation 2 games to play lately? If so, and if you don't have a backwards compatible PS3 (or PS2?!) then your one stop shop for games is the PlayStation Store. Today they added two more PS2 Classics to the lineup, both of which may be worth looking into. First there is Dynasty Tactics 2 which came out in 2003. The short-lived series focused on more tactical battles than what you might see from hack n' slash heavy Dynasty Warriors. The sequel is likely available in lieu of the original game due to Dynasty Tactics 2 being the expanded and better title. Next up is Castle Shikigami 2. Fans of sidescrolling shooters should definitely take note. The Shikigami series has seen continual release in the US despite a likely niche audience. The prequel of the series is best known as having a seriously Charlie's Angels-looking cover when it launched in the West as Mobile Light Force 2. Anyway, Castle Shikigami 2 is a competent shooter. The only issue is the English dub which features some truly ridiculous translation and voice acting.

The Warriors Closing in on PSN Release

When Manhunt came to PS2 Classics on PSN last week, Rockstar Games stated that The Warriors would also be making its way onto the service soon. It looks like they were serious about saying "soon" because the game will be made available next week. The game based on the much-loved 1979 film of the same name is certainly less controversial than Manhunt. Of course, it is still rated M. When it comes to PSN it will be at the cost of $10, which is perfectly in line with other PS2 Classics releases. With The Warriors soon available on PSN, the service now boasts a ton of Rockstar's catalog. Bully, Red Dead Revolver, and all PS2 versions of Grand Theft Auto are already there. What is your favorite or least favorite Rockstar game of all time?

GameStop to Stop Taking PS2 Trade-Ins This Summer

Many may dislike GameStop, but it doesn't change the fact that the store is the leading name for video game trade-ins. After enough years, they cannot continue to support every system though, which is why the GameBoy Advance, Xbox, and GameCube have been phased out of the store in the past few years. Of that era, only PS2 continued to be available in some locations. Coming June 1st, trade-ins will no longer be accepted for the system. Whether it's games, systems, or peripherals, you won't be able to go there to sell them. As a result, store locations are going to have their PS2 sections dwindle until nearly nothing is left. From there, minimal stock shall be shipped either to one central store location or back to a warehouse to be available online. If you've shopped for PS2 games lately in GameStop then you were probably already aware of this change coming. Stores have lessened PS2 shelf space to a minimum, if they even have it. Those who want to sell their PS2 games should either hurry to GameStop to get a few pennies for them or look toward another option.
  20. If you already beat Fatal Frame and need more creepy Japanese ghosts and haunted mansions, then you're in luck. Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly will be available for purchase on the PlayStation Store this upcoming Tuesday. In Fatal Frame II, you take control of twins Mio and Mayu Amakura. Both have a strong sixth sense (though Mio's is weaker than Mayu's). And while wandering through the woods, they both find a seemingly abandoned village after following a red butterfly. Your only weapon is an antique camera with the power to dispel ghosts. Have you ever played a game in the Fatal Frame series? Will you buy Fatal Frame II off of the PlayStation Store?
  21. The latest PS Store update is right around the corner tomorrow and as such offers up a handful of new digital downloads. Some are quite anticipated, such as Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon and Soul Sacrifice. But what if you're looking for something stranger? What about a game where you roll a big, sticky ball around to collect everything in your path for your celestial father? It may sound silly to those who have never heard of it, but Katamari Damacy is a classic PS2 title which spawned a handful of sequels. The original came to Sony's platform in 2004 under the radar but was quickly recognized as weird, but fun by many. The game achieved a great deal of popularity in the US and as such we have seen We Love Katamari, Me and My Katamari, and Beautiful Katamari show up in North America. The original Katamari Damacy includes single player for story mode and a battle mode for two local players. This also happens to be the best place to start if you're looking to get into Katamari. Pick up the PS2 Classic for the standard price of $10 if you'd like to experience an unusual game.

Fire Pro Wrestling Returns Unleashed on PSN

As today is Tuesday, we're in the middle of a PS Store update. Although a time is never specified for the updates, we can expect that sometime before midnight PST tonight that a handful of new games will be available on PSN. One such game is Fire Pro Wrestling Returns. It's quite exciting to see the PS2 Classics section continuing to expand in the face of HD remakes and collections. The wrestling game was initially developed by Chunsoft and published in North America by Agetec. What distinguishes the game from its competition is that it makes use of a pixelated art style which wasn't very common for fighters when it released. It also boasts a fantastic character creator instead of focusing on known fighters. Just last week, Agetec's RPG Maker 3 was the new Classic on the block. With yet another Agetec game now available it seems that the publisher may have taken over the PS2 Classics section for a while. Fire Pro Wrestling Returns costs PS3 players $10, which is the standard rate for PS2 digital releases. What game would you like to see on PS2 Classics that still hasn't shown up?

  24. Most likely in an effort to hype up the release of Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner - Soul Hackers for the 3DS (which comes out on April 16th), it looks like Atlus will be reprinting Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army and Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs King Abaddon for the PlayStation 2. Both of these games have been steadily becoming rare and more expensive on eBay and the like. Copies of either could easily go for over $60, so this reprint with the games having a suggested retail price of $30 is a godsend for fans that still have yet to play them. Unfortunately, the special edition bundle for Devil Summoner 2 that came with the very cute Raiho plush will not be among the reprints. Sorry! Will you be buying either of these games now that they're much cheaper?
