Pikmin 3 DLC Adds New Mission Mode Stages

If you've finished the story mode and the available mission mode stages in Pikmin 3 but are craving more content, Nintendo released the second bit of DLC for the game today. New challenges in the "Battle Enemies" mission mode can be bought on the Wii U eShop for $1.99 apiece, with one being free via an automatic software update. Each of the four stages is based off of the locations in the Story mode and can be played through solo or cooperatively with a friend. And of course, high scores will be displayed on a worldwide leaderboard for players looking to compete with others. To purchase the new DLC, you'll have to access the Wii U eShop and click on the Pikmin 3 page and then follow the instructions from there. Are you interested in trying out any of the Pikmin 3 DLC?

    Nintendo Download: Featured Games 8/1/13

This week's eShop update is marginally better than the last, with some big titles finally landing. The most notable is Cloudberry Kingdom, with a unique premise in which every level is completely randomized and the difficulty can match any need (casual or hardcore). Pikmin 3 is also another big heavy-hitter arriving soon, though it doesn't land on the eShop until Sunday (8/4). The game has been receiving rave reviews from other outlets so far, so keep an eye out for our official review in the near future. Hulu Plus is also finally out, for those who like streaming TV shows. If you don't have an account, you can visit www.huluplus.com/WiiU2months. Kirby's Dream Land 2 also hits the 3DS eShop this week, and Harvest Moon (SNES) makes its way to the Wii U eShop for some farming fun. For anyone who hasn't experienced the latter series in any way, the original SNES version of Harvest Moon is probably the cheapest entry at the moment and a great introduction to the series. Check out the full list of new games below: Wii U eShop Pikmin 3 (available 8/4) - $59.99 Cloudberry Kingdom - $9.99 Disney's Planes (available 8/6) - $49.99 Harvest Moon (SNES VC) - $7.99 Hulu Plus app 3DS eShop Kirby's Dream Land 2 (GB VC) - $3.99 Disney's Planes (available 8/6) - $39.99 Bike Rider DX - $5.99 My Farm 3D - $7.99 Family Kart 3D - $4.99 DSiware No new releases
  5. Wii U sales have been anemic on a month-to-month basis in most territories since the beginning of the year, but the fledgling console received a much needed boost in sales last week due to the arrival of Pikmin 3 and the physical release of New Super Luigi U. In fact, Pikmin 3 debuted at #1 with 92,720 units sold; not bad for a Wii U game, especially when Wii U games rarely make the top 10 there nowadays. Likewise, New Super Luigi U debuted at #5 with 24,881 units sold (this does not include sales from the eShop version either). The two games helped propel sales of the Wii U console to the top spot for consoles that week with 22,199 units sold, only behind the 3DS LL itself, which sold through some 29,954 units. If anything, this goes to show that strong first-party Nintendo software still sells well among the Japanese, and it bodes well for the rest of the year, which will see the likes of big titles such as The Wonderful 101, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, and Super Mario 3D World releasing over the next 4-5 months. 6. Pikmin 3 comes out in less than a month, but if you live near select GameStops, you just might have the chance to try it out and even download it on your Wii U a day before it officially launches! There are two days to try an in-store demo of Pikmin 3: July 20th and July 21st (click on either date to find a store near you that will be hosting the event). If you pre-order the downloadable version of Pikmin 3 during this event, you will be able to download the game a day before it launches on August 4th! If you need more details, Reggie Fils-Aime has them for you in the video below. http://youtu.be/AFynjjTEKLw
  7. Today's North American Nintendo Direct was pretty packed full of content. Although there wasn't necessarily much said about "new" games, there were a lot of release windows (and a few dates) discussed for both Wii U and 3DS. On the Wii U front, Lego City Undercover was shown more in depth, although it still doesn't have a release date. The time frame they expect to see it out is in early 2013. Wii Fit U is also set to come out around the same time. Pikmin 3 also only has a release window of Q2 2013, which is a bit later than its initial "launch window" status implied. Although Game & Wario was not given a date, it had some of its minigames shown off. In more unusual Wii U news, there was an announcement of Google Maps coming to the eShop. This allows for using Google's StreetView mode on the GamePad, or bring that view onto the TV set as well. Just like most of the other items, Google Maps has a release window of Q1 2013. 3DS got a few specific dates on some titles. Brain Age: Concentration Training was delayed from its original December date and will now be out on February 10th. Then, Nintendo was able to show off Fire Emblem Awakening footage as well as peg a date of February 4th. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon still has no exact date other than Spring 2013, but that's better than nothing. Finally, there was mention of Game Freak's HarmoKnight game coming West sometime in 2013. Here is today's Nintendo Direct:
