PopCap and Dentists Team Up to Prevent Zombie Mouth This Halloween
John Kidman posted a article in Industry News
Costumes and Candy. One would be hard pressed to walk into the local grocer and not realize that Halloween is rapidly approaching. Children running door-to-door in hopes of scoring sugar-filled treats while in costume has been a staple of Halloween in the United States since the late 1950s. PopCap and the American Dental Association have partnered in hope of redefining what is considered a treat on Halloween. In order to Stop Zombie Mouth PopCap is offering free vouchers for a digital copy of Plants vs. Zombies for PC and Mac. These vouchers can be printed off through their website, but the codes will only be active from October 30th through November 10th. The promotion is also providing vouchers with limited edition trading cards to dentists across the nation. The children may be initially disappointed they are not receiving candy, but their parents (and dentists) will hopefully be thankful. So hand these vouchers out with pride to your party guests or the costumed masses out for their own trick-or-treat experience and offer them all a fun, alternative gift. -
Plants vs. Zombies Pinball Arriving as DLC Next Week
Jason Clement posted a article in Industry News
Remember when we said earlier in the month that Zen Studios had a mystery PopCap-based pinball table that they were going to announce at PAX? Well it's official - the new table will be based on Plants vs. Zombies! Dubbed Plants vs. Zombies Pinball, it'll cost $2.99 and be arriving next week just in time for Zen Pinball 2's release on PS3 and Vita as well as Pinball FX 2 on the 360, where it'll cost 240 MSP. And just as a reminder, anyone who purchases Zen Pinball 2 for PS3 will be able to play it on Vita at no additional charge! How about that cross-buy functionality (thanks Zen Studios)! Check out the trailer for Plants vs. Zombies Pinball below:-

It's always an unfortunate circumstance when publishers are hit with layoffs (even more so in the wake of Nintendo Power's announced end earlier today) , but unfortunately today proved to be a major day for such an occurrence at the likes of PopCap, THQ, and Funcom (developer of The Secret World and Age of Conan). Specifically, PopCap had to let go 50 employees (more or less) at their Seattle studio while exploring the possibility of whether or not any changes can be made to attain profitability with their Dublin, Ireland studio. PopCap's co-founder stated that today's layoffs are the result of a "fast-changing industry" and the need to reorganize in order to manage costs, improve efficiency, and maintain a profit. You can read more of what he said here on PopCap's very public blog explaining the reason for the layoffs. Meanwhile, THQ has laid off about 20 people from its marketing staff. This comes as a reorganization of sorts as the company's new president, Jason Rubin, attempts to shift more resources into development areas. The official statement on the matter from THQ reads: "THQ confirms a realignment has taken place in the company's marketing and production groups in Agoura Hills. This change is reflective of the company's ongoing strategy to create a more focused, agile, and digitally-oriented organization. Less than 3% of the company's global workforce was impacted, and no development teams or projects were affected by this action." Last but not least, Funcom has not revealed the official number of layoffs but reports that certain measures are being taken to reduce operating costs for The Secret World through layoffs and other means. Game Podunk wishes the best for those who were laid off and hopes they land on their feet soon.

Zen Pinball 2 Gets a Release Date and Mystery Popcap-Based Table
Jason Clement posted a article in Sony
Earlier this year, pinball developer extraordinaire Zen Studios announced it would be bringing Zen Pinball 2 to the PS3 and Vita at some point, and now that timetable is finally being revealed! A release date has been set for September 4, 2012. In addition, a brand new table that will be based on one of Popcap Game's hit games will arrive with Zen Pinball 2 as DLC. The new table will be revealed at PAX Prime later this month and will be playable at Popcap's booth. Zen Studios is also bringing the Popcap-based table to Pinball FX2 on XBLA on September 5. And before anyone forgets, Zen Pinball 2 is a free update for those who already own Zen Pinball or Marvel Pinball, but it is also available for purchase as a stand-alone game as well for everyone else. New users can also try every pinball table (26 tables available at release) for free before deciding to purchase! Last but not least, the purchase of Zen Pinball 2 will entitle every owner to cross-platform functionality, meaning you'll be able to play it on the PS3 and Vita at no additional charge. You can look forward to playing Zen Pinball 2 in just under a month's time on the PS3 and Vita. Which game do you think the Popcap table is based on?-
