  1. Sierra's upcoming King's Quest has been a long time coming now, but fans will finally be getting their hands on the first chapter of the game later this year. But in order to help make things a little easier, Sierra announced the voice cast for the game today, and the good news is a number of well-known voice actors are set to appear. First and foremost, Christopher Lloyd (of Back to the Future fame) is set to voice elder King Graham, and Josh Keaton (best known for playing Peter Parker in the Spectacular Spider-Man animated series and Valerian Mengsk in StarCraft II) will be playing young Sir Graham. In addition, Wallace Shawn (best known for The Princess Bride—"Inconceivable!"), Tom Kenny (known for being the voice of SpongeBob SquarePants and Ice King in Adventure Time), and Zelda Williams (daughter of Robin Williams) will all have supporting roles. The rest of the cast includes Michael Benyaer, Loretta Devine, Gideon Emery, Jean Gilpin, Michael Gough, Andy Pessoa, Kevin Michael Richardson, Kath Soucie, Fred Tatasciore, Richard White, and Michael-Leon Wooley. King's Quest tells the story of an aged king as he regales his life's greatest journeys with his granddaughter, and is set to arrive on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC. You can check out the latest developer diary for the game below. Source: Press Release What are your thoughts on the voice cast for King's Quest?
  2. Police Quest megafans already knew that something new by series director Jim Walls was coming, but this is likely a surprise to anyone else. Police Quest was a popular Sierra series which veered away from the fantasy and sci-fi nature of King's Quest and Space Quest. Instead, it honed in on police encounters pulled from real events. Walls himself was involved in California law enforcement at the time which allowed him to bring his expertise into the titles. Now Walls has returned on Kickstarter to see if there is still a willing audience for the more tactical, realistic side of the police force in games. Precinct will be similar to the Police Quest games in that it will also base encounters on the stories of actual officers. Although Walls is now retired he still obviously has a great deal of interest in busting criminals. The biggest obstacle Precinct may face is the Kickstarter cost. Before the massive successes, many companies played it safe with low goal ranges. In the case of Precinct, they are asking for $500,000. Maybe the community is there for this game though as it has already made $25,000 on the first day. Here is a small selection of backer rewards: $30 - Receive digital copy of game $120 - A real piece of game artwork signed by the artist $300 - Hard copy of Special Operations Manual made for the game Unfortunately, there is no tier which grants a physical copy of the game. The campaign has until August 16th to make its goal. We shall see if Police Quest fans come out in force to support it.
  3. For the 25th anniversary of the Leisure Suit Larry series, Replay Games launched a Kickstarter project to reboot the original. Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards was a classic Sierra point and click adventure game with adult humor, and spawned a series of six games. Since being successfully funded in May of last year the developers have been working on Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded. Now the time is almost here when the game is actually set to launch. In a statement to Shack News, Replay Games CEO Paul Trowe made the announcement of a release window and pricing. Beta testing of the game opens up to Kickstarter users next week. From there, Trowe is optimistic, saying "the odds are in our favor that we can come in before [May]". The PC exclusive game is going to be available across Windows, Mac, and Linux at the cost of $20. Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded previously had been entered into Steam Greenlight and has already been Greenlit.
  4. Police Quest was a Sierra series that never quite had the same following as their other games. King's Quest, Space Quest, and even Leisure Suit Larry had large followings while Police Quest attracted a different brand of player. When the series began in 1987, it was part police simulation wrapped up in an adventure gaming package. Later, the series transitioned into SWAT which was more strategic, and eventually a tactical shooter with the release of SWAT 4. However, only the first 3 Police Quest titles were produced by Jim Walls. Former officer Walls infused each game with a dose of reality that other games couldn't come close to. Now it seems that Walls has the itch to create a game again. In an interview with the Two Guys from Andromeda, he spoke about Kickstarter and his plans to release a Police Quest project on the site this year. The Two Guys from Andromeda are themselves from Sierra's heyday and recently funded their SpaceVenture project. It seems that many are attempting to revive past Sierra franchises to the chagrin of that era's adventure game fans. Hopefully when Walls posts his project it will see similar success to his contemporaries such as Al Lowe and Josh Mandel who had their Leisure Suit Larry reboot fully funded.
