    CW's Supergirl Discussion

So has anyone else besides myself been watching Supergirl? I thought it's pretty good so far. Pilot episode weeks go went off with a bang hitting right away with the Supergirl reveal and stuff. Superman is present, but only mentioned. It looks to be a hit since it generated millions of views. Mondays with Gotham and Supergirl and Tuesdays with Flash and SHIELD are awesome. Anyways give your thoughts. We do have a lot of threads on superhero shows lol. Thought I add in the Supergirl thread.
  2. So it's probably safe to say from reading other threads that most of us are fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and why wouldn't we be? Pretty much all of their movies have been fun, action-filled romps with likable and memorable characters and menacing villains. Of course DC Comics eventually had to get a slice of that pie, so they've launched their own cinematic universe that starts with Man of Steel and leads into Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and onward. Dawn of Justice is meant to kick off a shared Justice League universe, much like the majority of Marvel's movies with The Avengers. Here's a list of the upcoming movies that fit into DC's new universe: Suicide Squad - 2016 Wonder Woman - 2017 Justice League: Part I - 2017 The Flash - 2018 Aquaman - 2018 Shazam - 2019 Justice League: Part II - 2019 Cyborg - 2020 Green Lantern Corps - 2020 Ignoring the rumored Suicide Squad sequel and an unnamed Batman movie (and also ignoring whether some of these characters really need their own movies *cough*Cyborg*cough*Aquaman*cough*) that's a pretty solid lineup. My question though is...does the idea of this new DC movie universe get you excited and ready to see your favorite heroes brought to the big screen, or are you wary that DC and WB may not have what it takes to make an engaging movie universe like Marvel has? For me, I think it's probably safe to say that Man of Steel set the general tone for the movie universe (dark and gritty) but of course that may not be the case for all of them. If it is, though, I'm a bit worried about how well they can sustain the solo movies, especially with some of the more corny characters like The Flash and Shazam. I'm also worried that WB just looked at Marvel Studios' earnings and said "let's do that" without putting any more thought into it besides how much money they could make, so that's another reason to be wary. The biggest reason to be wary? They haven't announced Martian Manhunter for the Justice League movies, and that's a crime that can't be forgiven. Anyway, how do you all feel about it?
  3. So according to this handy dandy little list from BoxOfficeMojo, Deadpool has officially cracked the top 10 highest-grossing comic book adaptations of all time, beating out every other Fox superhero movie including the well-regarded X-Men films (and X-Men 3) and even passing biggies like the first two Iron Man movies. It's not trailing too far behind Guardians of the Galaxy at #9, so it could move even further up the list before it ends its theatrical run. This is pretty big for a movie that the studio had such little faith in that it barely got greenlit in the first place, and shows that the dreaded "R" rating doesn't necessarily hurt a movie's chances of hitting it big. With that news, Batman Vs. Superman is also releasing an R-rated version (on DVD only, theatrical will be PG-13) and Fox has already greenlit a sequel to Deadpool. So with all this going on, the odds are looking pretty good that studios might be more willing to invest in some of the more "mature" franchises to bring to the big screen, and may allow some of the darker undertones to slip into established franchises. My question for you is - would that be a good thing or bad? Do you like superhero movies to be mostly family friendly popcorn blockbusters, or would you rather see movies that tackle some of the edgier storylines that never make it into movies? Are there any comics that would have never been made into movies before that you think have a shot now? Let's hear your opinion!
