Two Tribes Shuts Down and Reboots

Two Tribes B.V., the Dutch developer behind last year's Toki Tori 2+, Rush, and Edge, has announced that the company they once were is no more. However, this isn't quite the end just yet. The good news is Two Tribes Publishing B.V., which owns and publishes the games and handles contracts etc., is still intact, and co-founders Martijn Reuvers and Collin van Ginkel have announced that a new daughter company will be formed and will handle all future development of titles. Despite this, all of the old staff from Two Tribes B.V. has been let go, and a new, smaller staff will proceed with future projects. So what's the cause of Two Tribe's demise? The blog post explaining the situation mentions that it was mostly due to the development of Toki Tori 2 taking way longer than expected and not selling to expectations. For now, the next game in development at the new Two Tribes is a 2D sidescrolling shooter built on the same engine created for Toki Tori 2. Expect to hear more from the new company about the project over the course of the year.

    Nintendo Download: Featured Games 4/4/13

This week's eShop update brings with it one of the bigger releases that has been announced for the Wii U quite a while back. That, of course, is the puzzle platformer game Toki Tori 2, which was originally supposed to debut in December last year before being delayed. Word around the net is that it's pretty good, so you might be interested in checking it out if you're looking for something new to play on the Wii U. Other than that, Gabrielle's Ghostly Groove makes its way onto the 3DS eShop as a digital download, as well as the original Castlevania (NES), while third-person shoot 'em up NAM-1975 makes its way to the Wii Virtual Console. There's also a sale on 3DS eShop game, escapeVektor, which sees its price cut by 50% to $4.99; and an update for Colors 3D, which will add some new features for users. Check out the full list of games and DLC releasing below- Wii U eShop Toki Tori 2 3DS eShop Castlevania (NES) Gabrielle's Ghostly Groove Real Heroes: Firefighter 3D Wii Virtual Console NAM-1975 Sales escapeVektor (3DS eShop) - $4.99 (originally $9.99) DLC/Updates New DLC for Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity Colors 3D update (coming April 5)
  3. Happy Easter! You like free games, right? Well, Two Tribes is running a contest to win a Wii U copy of Toki Tori 2... all you have to do is decorate an easter egg and show it off! Here's the contest and info: http://twotribes.com/message/easter-contest-win-toki-tori-2
  4. Two Tribes announced that Toki Tori 2 will not be meeting its December 20 release date for the Wii U. As Two Tribes“ first title without being tied to either a license or publisher, the game is simply not currently meeting the standards for which the company aims to strive. According to the official website post, Toki Tori 2 needs a little tweaking to a few weak points in in gameplay, graphics and technology. Two Tribes“ delay on Toki Tori 2 for the Wii U is now currently tagged for an “Early 2013” release, a delay that will ultimately push back PC and Mac development. The company states that it will work in “full force” on the Steam version following the game“s Wii U release. Toki Tori 2 will likely still fall within the Wii U's official launch window.
