Jason Clement posted a topic in Computer, Gadget, and TechnologySo apparently the Windows 10 free upgrade offer expires on July 29 (which kind of snuck up on me, honestly). I'm still kind of iffy on whether or not I'll upgrade, if only because if I do, I'm afraid if I have a failure to boot situation down the road, I may not be able to restore Windows 10 without a disc. Which then I'd have to go out and, y'know, actually buy it anyhow. But I'm leaning towards doing it; I'll just make the recovery disc and hope for the best, especially if more and more games are becoming Windows 10-only and such. What about you? Have you made the upgrade yet (if you have a PC)? Or are you planning to do so if you haven't yet?
Jason Clement posted a topic in PC, Mac, and Mobile GamesStumbled upon this on NeoGAF the other day, and wow, this kinda sucks. I always knew there would be problems with stuff like SecuROM, so it's not entirely surprising, but still. I'm sure there's a big list of games with SecuROM and SafeDisc on them out there somewhere, but some of the biggest games that included them were Spore, Mass Effect, Dragon Age II, and Bioshock. The good news is I'm sure they will be patched on Steam, so hopefully this won't affect too many people. This news does kinda make me wonder if companies are rethinking DRM policies, though.
Looks like Windows 10 is out in the wild, I think? I've seen people tweeting about installing it, at least. As far as I know, I believe there's a free upgrade for it to anyone who has Windows 7 and 8, so the installation should be available now. That said, will you be installing it anytime soon? One thing to keep in mind is that if you do switch over, you MAY lose access to some programs and games (not sure which, but I've heard it happens). Also, you can only switch back to Windows 7 or 8.1 within 30 days of installing it; otherwise, you're stuck with 10 for good, unless you format your drive and have the original installation disc for 7 or 8. Anyhow, 10 is supposed to be pretty good so far, but you might be better served waiting for the bugs to be ironed out first. That's what I plan to do anyhow. What about you? Do you plan on installing Windows 10 right now? Or ever?
Jason Clement posted a topic in PC, Mac, and Mobile GamesSo this is pretty bizarre. Remember yesterday when I mentioned that Windows 8 users would get Windows 9 for free? Turns out Windows 9 isn't happening at all now; Microsoft is jumping straight to Windows 10, apparently. Someone on Twitter brought out that this shouldn't be so strange after they named the current Xbox Xbox One (instead of 720 or something), but still... pretty strange, lol. Anyhow, you can read more about it on The Verge if you want; it's basically a combination of Windows 7 and 8 as far as the GUI goes, and it's supposed to run on a wide variety of devices. What do you guys make of this news? Surprised that Microsoft skipped 9 altogether?
