    The 3D Classics Appreciation Thread

I've decided I want to create a thread that pays tribute to your favorite 3D Classics in the eShop library. Rather than rely on simple ports like the Virtual Console, folks like M2 put tender loving care into classic games, giving them new life and new depth. What are some of your favorites? I dusted off my Japanese 3DS just to buy and play this gem last night. 3D Streets of Rage 2 is coming stateside in July. I may have compiled 750 words of notes about all the nuances and changes made to the game's "3D" version. If y'all want to see them, here on this very thread, just say the word. I have to say, 3D OutRun makes my heart sing more than any of the others (not counting the above one). I'm not really sure why; I think it's because the 3D effects...like...belong in a racer like that one. Go 'head! Tell me what 3D Classics you own. Want Nintendo to follow SEGA's lead, for once? 3D Super Mario World? C'mon, it's a no brainer.
  2. If you haven't seen it yet, the Xenoblade Chronicles faceplate was just announced for Japan. Looks pretty dang cool if I do say so myself, but a conversation I had with a friend in the UK the other day got me thinking. There's an awful lot of people who want the normal-sized New 3DS in the US, and by far the biggest reason is because of the customizable faceplates. But, we never really thought about how much they would cost. You'd assume $10-15, right? Actually, in the UK, when you covert their price into USD, it comes out to around $23-25. Per faceplate. That's actually more than half the cost of a game. Would people lose their appetite for these faceplates at that cost? I dunno, but I imagine it's more than what many might be willing to pay. Then again, people are willing to pay crazy amounts for Amiibo as well. What about you? Would you be willing to pay $25 standard for a 3DS faceplates if they do end up coming over? Or is it a dealbreaker for you?
  3. While it's not out here till 2015, the New Nintendo 3DS is out in Japan now and reports about what people think about it are starting to come out. According to Rocket News 24, this is what people had to say- - Impressions on the C-stick (or the newly added "nub" on the right side) seem divided, with some saying that it's pretty good, and others saying that it feels hard on your thumb. - Improved, anti-blur 3D screen is really impressive and has richer colors - The whites of the screen seem to be more yellowish (it isn't clear if the New Nintendo 3DS starts in power-saving mode, which accounts for it being yellowish on the normal 3DS). - Japan LOVES the wooden cover that you can buy. I can't say I blame them; it's definitely cool-looking. - Everything is speedier overall, transitions into menu, game, eShop and such. - A few said it doesn't feel as nice to touch as previous iterations; one said it feels "cheaper" and more toylike. - Speakers are more powerful; sound quality is better - Start/Select are more accessible A few cons here and there, but the New Nintendo 3DS is really starting to sound pretty good to me, so I won't feel too bad about passing up the Smash 3DS XL to go for this one instead. What do you guys think? Any of the opinions here sway you on the matter?

New 3DS Will Still Be Region-Locked After All

Over the last week, there was a rumor that had been circulating through Twitter that the newly announced "New Nintendo 3DS" would in fact do away with region locking, but sadly it ended up being false. Nintendo has confirmed to Gamespot that they will indeed be keeping the policy of region locking effective on the "New Nintendo 3DS" (and its XL counterpart). Its president, Satoru Iwata, had offered an explanation in the previous year that each country has its own cultural acceptance, legal restrictions, and age ratings, which is why they must region lock devices. It is worth noting that despite Iwata's explanation, Microsoft's Xbox One and Sony's PlayStation 4 and PS Vita are all region-free, making one wonder exactly if that explanation really does hold much water or if it's Nintendo being overly-cautious so as to avoid any legal discrepancies with customers down the line. The New Nintendo 3DS was originally announced last week and has only been confirmed for release in Japan thus far, though Nintendo has acknowledged that it will announce information regarding a release in other territories at a later date. Source: Gamespot What are your thoughts on the New Nintendo 3DS being region-locked?
  5. Have you ever woken up and felt like the world slightly shifted on its axis? That“s certainly how I feel this morning, as one of the biggest fans of Xenoblade Chronicles. Shulk, the main character from Xenoblade has officially been confirmed for Super Smash Bros. on Nintendo Wii and 3DS. His official reveal trailer (seen below) features the usual Sakurai charm, as well as showing off some of his moves. His Final Smash features Riki and Dunban joining him for a moment. The end of the trailer even features Metal Face from Xenoblade looming over him as a shadow. Is this a hint to a potential stage hazard? Oh, but that“s not all. Nintendo also announced a port of Xenoblade Chronicles was coming to Nintendo 3DS. ...But wait! That“s impossible with the 3DS“s processing power, isn“t it? Precisely. And that“s why Nintendo officially announced brand new 3DS and 3DS XL systems this morning. They“re coming to Japan on October 11th, 2014. The systems have been confirmed for the West as well (2015), but the Xenoblade Chronicles port has not. I presume Nintendo of America are keeping their cards close for some potential PAX Prime spotlight. I'm quite certain this port won't provoke another Operation Rainfall. For now, you can watch the full Nintendo Direct presentation (in Japanese) to see all the greatness revealed before many of us woke up this morning. More news bits include the fact that themes are coming to the Home Menu on Nintendo 3DS in October. For those wondering just how much processing power these new systems will have, of Xenoblade Chronicles for Wii and the brand new 3DS systems. This story is still developing. I“ll update it with more information as it comes.
