  1. It's surprising that we haven't gotten any real-world racing sims on Switch yet. Sure, we've got Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Fast RMX, but it's interesting that no arcade or sim racers featuring real cars have made its way onto the breakout handheld to date. Until now, that is. Microids' and Eden Games' Gear Club will be the first authentic racing sim to grace the Switch after making the jump from mobile. But don't let the fact that it was a mobile game dissuade you; the visuals are fairly impressive, and the title offers over 400 races through various environments with over 30 of the world's most famous cars. In addition to its racing modes, Gear Club features a range of customization, where you'll be able to change everything from the body right down to the engine. You'll also be able to race against friends through a 4-player, split-screen, local co-op mode, or compete online with leaderboards. Gear Club will be available both digitally and physically on Nintendo Switch tomorrow. Source: Press Release Will you be checking out Gear Club?
  2. Hey there, racing fan -- don't worry, Sony hasn't forgotten about the WipEout series; at least not yet. SCE Liverpool -- the developer behind WipEout -- may have been closed years back but Sony is collecting three of the series' games together in WipEout: Omega Collection this June. Those three games are WipEout HD, its expansion titled WipEout HD Fury, and the PS Vita release -- WipEout 2048 (which would sadly be the last in the series). Though WipEout HD was originally released on PS3, it actually collected tracks from the PSP-exclusive WipEout Pure and Pulse, which were then brought into 1080p. So it's almost a collection within a collection, of sorts. WipEout collection... inception, even? At any rate, the Omega Collection will run at 1080p/60fps on regular PS4/Slim, and at 4K resolution on PS4 Pro. Check out the trailer below! WipEout Omega Collection is coming to PS4 on June 6. Source: Are you looking forward to this collection?

GRID 2 Gets a Ridiculous Special Edition

So, we're used to seeing many games get limited/special/collector's editions these days. Sometimes they're very fairly priced, and other times they are a bit too expensive. Some come with a heaping boat load of tangible nonsense, while others simply slap the word "limited" over their case alongside a single piece of pre-order DLC. What we don't see often (or ever) is a special edition that includes a car. No, not a toy car, or DLC, but an actual car. That's exactly what is supposedly on offer with the GRID 2 BAC Mono Edition through European retailer GAME. Of course, it also comes with a digital rendition of the vehicle in game, as well as racing gear and helmet. The BAC Mono racecar that comes with this edition is what makes it cost £125,000 ($189,000). In all likelihood, there is only such BAC Mono Edition available, if that. What this serves is a great marketing tool to show the ridiculous divergence between what it costs to have fun with supercars in a video game versus what it would cost to live out that fantasy. What is the most you would be willing to pay for a special edition?

Nicalis Nabs The 90's Arcade Racer

Kickstarter is the home of so many project that it's often hard to keep track. Just recently the GameStick was unveiled, as well as the episodic future of Dreamfall. This month also saw the launch of a project simply titled The 90's Arcade Racer which looked to be a tribute to the 3D racing games of the past. The goal was set at a fairly low (for Kickstarter) amount of £10,000 which translates to about $15,600. Still, with five days left on the project it didn't manage to amass huge amounts over its goal like some, instead currently having £12,220 pledged. Of course, what matters most on Kickstarter is that a project is funded at all, not the excess that accrues. Developer Nicalis, best known for Cave Story, has joined the project. Before this announcement, The 90's Arcade Racer was simply being developed by one person. Nicalis will aid this project by programming in Unity as well as helping to produce it. Why was Nicalis interested in joining this effort? Simply put, Tyrone Rodriguez of Nicalis, Inc. loved Virtua Racing, Daytona, and all the rest back in the day. Thanks to this partnership the project will hopefully come out in a more expedient timeframe, although Nicalis doesn't have the best history for that. With their help it is also said that the game will be brought to Wii U via the eShop too.
  6. Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed hit a lot of consoles when it came out. It arrived on 360, PS3, Wii U, 3DS, and Vita easily. PC owners were also promised a copy, but not immediately. One thing that really helped make choosing one version of the game over the other harder (or easier) was the inclusion of exclusive characters. Unfortunately, PC players will not get to try out the console exclusive ones, but are getting their own batch to get excited about. The new additions are both expected and unusual. First, there are three characters from the incredibly popular Team Fortress 2: Heavy, Pyro, and Spy. Then, Sega decided to get weird and add in the manager from Football Manager. Finally, a Shogun from Total War: Shogun 2 is included. It's strange because at least Team Fortress 2 characters are, well, characters. In the case of these others it seems they would not jive with Sega's universe at all. But then again, Danica Patrick doesn't necessarily fit that mold either. When will you get to race with these new folks? Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed will be coming to PC on January 31st for $30. It will hit a whole bunch of expected digital distribution platforms. Steam is an obvious shoe-in considering character's from Valve's own game are included!
  7. I've had my back turned to NFS: Most Wanted for the past several months. With all of the exciting releases lining up for a fall release date, it's easy to miss a racing game right? Criterion and EA think otherwise and have thrown out a deliciously fast and furious trailer for the upcoming Most Wanted franchise reboot. All I can say is, "DANG!" It looks as good, if not better than Criterion's Burnout: Paradise. Taking the same open-world philosophy and merging it with a car-hopping feature and online multiplayer suite may be just the thing the NFS series needs. I know I'm actually looking forward to it, despite the release date matching Assassin's Creed III's launch! I love the speed and carnage NFS: Most Wanted is bringing. Getting chased by the popo hasn't looked this fresh or thrilling since Hot Pursuit. Couple that with Criterion's knack for making exciting arcade racers and there's no reason not to be excited! It also doesn't hurt that the game is visually gorgeous! Look for NFS: Most Wanted October 30th on XBOX 360, PS3, and PC. Need it to go? There will be a PS Vita, iOS, and Android version for mobile carnage! What do you guys think? Are you excited, skeptical, or something else?
