I've spoken at length before about how my sleeping schedule isn't the greatest. Fortunately (and unfortunately), I don't have a working situation that requires me to get up and go to bed at the same exact time every weekday, so that's why I tend to stay up late (sometimes as late as... 3am or so). Also because I do my best writing late and am most alert at night, I guess. But going to bed at 2-3 and waking up even at 9-10am (which is... still 7 hours, give or take) is still murder on my body at times, so I'm trying to go to bed earlier. Which is why naps are so important these days. In particular, I'm trying to master the power nap, which usually is about 20-30 in length and achieved by setting your alarm in order to wake you and such. Reading up on it online, supposedly sleeping (or at least laying down) for that period of time is supposed to help take the edge off your sleepiness and make you more alert and more prone to making good decisions and such. And it gives you none of the grogginess that comes from napping too long (usually an hour plus), where it then sort of interrupts your sleep schedule. Anyhoo, I'm trying to get better at it; we'll see what happens. But before this, I'd find myself getting super tired as early as 8-9pm, even though I'd have to stay up and continue doing work, so hopefully this will help. And obviously your diet plays a big part in this as well; if you're eating a ton of sugar, starch, or turkey, that's bound to send you to sleepyville. But I digress. Does anyone else depend on naps or power naps to get them through the day?
