  1. This is either good news or bad news depending on how you look at it. Basically, the news is this: according to CNBC, Fox is looking to sell a large part of their business (everything but sports and news, I believe), and Disney was one of the companies that it had held talks with. Apparently, those talks are no longer active right now. At the moment, it doesn't look like anything could happen, but if they were, it means the X-Men and Fantastic Four would be returned to Disney/Marvel. The downside? Disney would become even more of an entertainment monopoly/juggernaut, potentially being bad news for customers/fans because they could raise prices for the biggest properties everyone loves. Interesting side note: if you hadn't heard previously, Disney is raising the percentage rate of returns they make on Star Wars: The Last Jedi from theaters. Traditionally, movie distributors like Disney get a 55% cut, but they're raising the rate to 65% for TLJ, and that could be catastrophic for some theaters. Also, they're demanding each theater show TLJ on their largest screen for at least four weeks. If not, the theaters get hit with a 5% penalty. As of this moment, some theaters are fighting back, opting not to show the movie at all. But if the majority give in to the demands, Disney stands to make a ton more money than they usually do. What do you guys make of this? Would you want to see FOX sold to Disney?
  2. If you haven't been watching, Gotham has been pretty good this season. I'd probably say it's the best the show has been so far, with major appearances by the Mad Hatter, the return of Jerome (who may or may not become the Joker), the Court of Owls, and a surprising turn of events between Oswald/The Penguin and Ed Nygma/The Riddler. Anyhow, the trailer for the rest of Season 3 dropped recently; take a look... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylvzMOPJNXk Looking pretty good if you ask me. It appears they're going to close out the season by focusing mainly on the Court of Owls and a showdown between Bruce and his evil clone. Also, pretty cool that Bruce will finally get a mentor that teaches him how to fight (besides Alfred) and such. ALSO ALSO, Hugo Strange is coming back! That's always cool. Less enthused about Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith). And was that clip of Selina laying on the floor an indication that she might've died but been brought back to life (one of nine lives), signifying her transformation into Catwoman? Should be interesting to see. What do you guys think of the midseason trailer?
  3. Don't ask me why, but the first two seasons of The Boondocks are completely free on the PlayStation Store right now. No strings attached! https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-us/tv/series/the-boondocks/cid=UV0001-NPVA37246_CN-0000000000074038
  4. Does anyone here still watch The Simpsons at all? I haven't really watched it in years, but even still, I was pretty surprised to hear yesterday that Harry Shearer had left the show. If the name doesn't ring a bell, he's one of the five or six key voices in the show, most notably the voice of Ned Flanders, Mr. Burns, and Smithers, as well as others. Apparently he left over a dispute (he wanted more time to do other things and such). While it's a shame to see him go, I do wonder if this is basically the beginning of the end for the show since the other voice actors may want to follow in Shearer's footsteps sooner versus later now that he's gone. It's also worth noting that the show was renewed for at least two more seasons. Fortunately, Shearer's voice is probably the most replaceable of the bunch; if Hank Azarea were to leave, I'd imagine that would impact the show pretty hard, but it's not as hard to mimic Ned Flander's voice, for example. Anyhow, what do you guys think of the news? And do you think The Simpsons is way past its prime?

Anyone watching Gotham? So far I like it but can see that it could lose its direction before long. They may be trying too hard to mix fantasy and reality. After 3 episodes, I'd probably give it a 7/10 rating. Good enough for me to keep watching but I could see myself losing interest after a while. The cast is good...guess we'll see if they can improve in other areas.
  6. This season's shows are just wrapping up and the hype train is already beginning for next season's shows. Case in point, WB & CW's next superhero show which is now titled Legends of Tomorrow. They released the first look trailer at the show today. Check it out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MubNoWQiSc I have to admit, I didn't expect to see Oliver Queen and Barry Allen there, but they're probably only there for the first episode (or episodes where major stuff goes down). In any case, I actually do like that this show has much more of a mission element to it than Arrow and The Flash, but I wonder how long they can drag out the fight against what's-his-name the villain. Also worth noting, the show hasn't actually filmed its first episode yet, so the footage you saw was a combination of already-shot footage from Arrow, The Flash, and test footage for the new show, apparently. Hey, at least it doesn't look anywhere as bad as Supergirl. Hopefully I'll be all caught up on Arrow by then, but man, between this show, Arrow, The Flash, Gotham, Agents of SHIELD, Daredevil, and Supergirl, things are really starting to get a bit crowded in the superhero TV show department. Anyhow, what do you guys think of Legends of Tomorrow? Do you plan on checking it out?
  7. As if there weren't already enough superhero shows on TV, things are about to get a lot more crowded next season when Supergirl debuts on CBS. Check out the first look trailer below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lm46-envrHo Personally, I'm not really sure how I feel about it. I'll reserve judgement until I watch it, but the trailer does make it seem like it hits all the same beats that Superman does, but the one twist is the "having to prove herself" aspect of the show. I just hope it can manage to be something unique when compared to Superman in the end. What do you guys think?

    Hatsune Miku on David Letterman

If anyone missed it (or otherwise didn't know), here's Hatsune Miku performing on The Late Show with David Letterman last night. http://youtu.be/qA5pIpdQEr0 Still kind of weird to see something very Japanese-y as a holographic Japanese singing idol on something like Letterman, but maybe this will help expose more Americans to Japanese pop culture and such. What did you guys think?
  9. I guess they blew it all on animating the fight scenes / maneuver gear scenes because they are really cutting corners whereever possible lol They've been cutting and pasting scenes the entire time... Not to worry, the bluray release will fix it all! Just look at the comparisons between the current TV streams and the bluray release. (Left side is TV, Right sight is BD) Also the ages of some of the characters confuses me....
  10. Yesterday, Bloomberg posted an article which may be of interest to anyone who has cable at home. They shared that people close to the big telecommunications companies are looking into getting streaming games onto customer TVs. AT&T, Comcast, Cox, Time Warner Cable, and Verizon were all cited as being part of this effort. Most did not offer any statement for Bloomberg, but those who did make this seem all the more likely. Supposedly, small trial runs of cloud gaming services may start as soon as next year or 2014 for others. Although there are few specifics being shared, companies like Cox allowed their spokesperson to say that they're exploring "cloud-based broadband services". Although Verizon didn't confirm an interest in streaming, they didn't deny it either. Their statement was simply one that said they currently offer no HD cloud gaming. Time Warner Cable said nothing at all in response. A spokesperson for AT&T gave the clearest answer to the question of cloud gaming: “[AT&T is] exploring unique ways to offer cloud gaming services to our TV and broadband customers.” With AT&T being such a large contender in the business it makes sense that if they are doing something the other companies probably are too. Although none of the sources for this information were named it seems to be only a matter of time before everyone is offering to provide you with cloud-based games. Even Sony bought Gaikai a while back. Would you play streaming games provided by your cable company? Would you pay an additional subscription to access them?

    Wii U's Nintendo TVii Detailed

What on Earth is Nintendo TVii, and why is it written that way? Well, the second question is easy to answer by simply saying it's Nintendo being Nintendo. Now, what is it all about? This "third pillar" of the Wii U system was discussed at length during today's Wii U preview event so here's what you need to know. Nintendo TVii is a new initiative that will run on the GamePad. It is meant to be a new way to interface with you television media and watching habits. When booted up, the application lists a few basic buttons: TV, movies, sports, and search. For TV, you will be able to see all the upcoming listings for shows (for the sources available to you). From this, you will be able to click buttons that allow you to "tune in" to the station where the show is on, or queue it up to be recorded or played from a DVR device (only Tivo was mentioned). Apparently "moments" and descriptions of live shows will also be vieweable. This means that brief summations of what's happening and screenshots for an episode will be stored. It's not known what shows will get this feature, as certainly not everything could. This is all basically remote control functionality, not streaming TV. For movies, it was announced that you'll be able to interface it with your existing Netflix, Hulu Plus, or Amazon Instant Video accounts. When looking up movies you will be able to quickly check out reviews and information from IMDB, as well as watch trailers on the GamePad itself. Again, it will only show items from sources that you actually are subscribed to. Once you're ready to watch something then all you need to do is select it and start watching on your TV. With the sports button you gain access to a whole lot of information. The main screen shows off the current scores for games. Your favorite teams will show up as the first scores too, so you don't even have to search. Once a game is on you'll be able to use the GamePad to pull up all kinds of statistics on the current game and players. Sports also have the same feature of TV shows where moments will be recorded if you want to catch up on a play you missed. To help make the best of Nintendo TVii, players signed in with their personal Miis will have all information tailored to them. Shows and movies will be recommended based off their set preferences. If you don't want to be profiled, you can choose a setting to not log in when using TVii. If you're into social networking, you can also set up your Twitter and Facebook accounts to update statuses while checking out shows and movies. Finally, all of the features of this application are free to use. Does Nintendo TVii seem appealing or is it a glorified remote control?

From the album: Classic Gaming Expo 2012 (CGX 2K12) Photo Album

"Released in 1977, this is the sequel to Color TV Game 6. This game features fifteen different variations of Light Tennis (improved the previous 6). CTV G15 was very successful, selling over a million copies in Japan. The controllers were now separate from the console, while in the original the players were required to turn the knobs on the actual console."

"To celebrate the sale of 20 million PlayStation 2 consoles, Sony unveiled limited edition color (alleged to be 666 of each) systems at the 2000 Tokyo Game Show. Labeled "The 2001 European Automobile Collection", these systems can be found in "super red", "metallic silver", "astral blue", "snow white", and "light yellow". The case, controller, and system stand are the only unique items in this otherwise stock PS2."
  18. Wow, so first it was Adam Sessler leaving G4, and now Kevin Pereira. G4 announced today that Pereira would be leaving the show after 10 years (6 years co-hosting it) to focus on his new production company, Super Creative, but not before covering E3 2012 first. Source: G4 What do you guys think? Are you surprised? Sad? Don't care? Let us know!
