1.8 million. That's how many PlayStation Vitas were sold as of March 31, as per Sony.

The information was revealed in a Sony earnings call following the company's annual earnings report today.

CEO Kaz Hirai on the system's sales:

"About Vita," Mr. Hirai said, "the last year, [we sold] 1.8 million units for US, Japan, Asia and Europe. And as a starting phase, I think that was a good start."

As long as they price drop it at E3, the Vita will be just fine.

Hopefully. Bundling a memory card in will do.

Sounds like a low figure to me. As long as the memory cards are over-priced, the system is over-priced and they don't have that many good games for the system, I don't see them catching up with the 3DS. I really have no plans to buy a Vita myself. Once Phantasy Star Online comes out for the Vita, I might be a little tempted to get one, but the prices would need to come way down by then.

For the love of god can they please price drop it soon and include a memory card with it. It's obvious now that it's not doing well because of the high price of both the system and memory card.
Even then, I'd still be wary about buying one until I see some good games worth the purchase. So far it's just Persona 4 Golden for me AND I'VE ALREADY PLAYED PERSONA 4.

For me, there are about 4 games I'd be somewhat interested in for the Vita including Persona 4 Golden, but that's not enough for me to buy a system. There needs to be at least 10-20 games I'd be interested in purchasing for it.

I'm OK with the games released so far, the line-up is better than 3DS's early line-up. Also, i don't think the console itself is overpriced, but i will NOT buy a Vita until they price drop their memory cards, they are EXTREMELY overpriced, arrogant bastards.

Granted it is a worldwide sells, but 1.8 million is pretty good still. I don't know exactly what they were projecting it to be. But like some of you guys have said. We need a good bundle with a nice memory card. I think the price was fine actually. Just the accessory makes me turn my head away from the vita. Also a better lineup of games could help the Vita. I hope the vita does well though. I'm a fan of handheld but it seems that we have been moving away from it since the psp. I guess the DS are still around. Maybe a blockbuster release combo with a nice memory card for like $200 would be a good way to help the sales.
