A while back, it was announced that Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee would be receiving the HD re-release treatment. The developers of the game, Oddworld Inhabitants, decided that just a re-release wouldn't be enough for the hardcore and dedicated fans of the series. So, during E3, they had announced via their Facebook page that the planned HD release would be scrapped and that Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee HD would be completely built from scratch.
Here's what Oddworld Inhabitants had originally announced:
"Ok so here's the skinny on 'Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee'...
We decided to reboot it, not just an HD update to the original PS1 title, this is a NEW game. It will be getting it's first public showing LATER this year, with a release date of NEXT summer (2013)."
They later clarified:
"To extra clarify Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee HD, it is a remake of the original PS1 title, however we have started it from scratch using the original as a blueprint... Ok?"
Summer of next year is a bit of a wait, but it'll definitely be worth it!
UPDATE: The date of "summer 2013" has been touched upon by studio coordinator, Wil Bunce:
"And I'm going to castrate whoever said it will be out summer 2013. There's not one person on the development team who thinks that's going to happen. And more than 550 people 'like' it, and that number is climbing fast. When we're already in trouble for giving so many promises and release schedules that haven't come to fruition. I have no idea how to damage control this."
What are your thoughts on this remake of the classic and unique platforming game?

Sweet, I haven't played any of the original Oddworld games yet (though I hope to pick them up for super cheap during Steam's summer sale....seriously, they had them for only like $0.80 each last year), and I may just have to pick this one up, granted it's cheap.
Also, it's great to finally see a full remake of an older game like this, and not just some updated textures, sound quality, and trophy/achievement support. Bravo to Oddworld Inhabitants, I must say!

Feel free to add me on Steam at http://www.steamcomm....com/id/drpixel if you just want to chat or need a friend. Please mention that you're from here though, because I usually don't accept requests from random people, which seems to happen to me a lot. ![]()
