Very nice on the environment of the work place. But this definitely can not work for most other places. The one big downsize I see is that you can let poor performances go unnoticed for a while as mentioned in the article. This is nice and all but not everyone will thrill in this place. Many people need a boss to put work on them to make them do things. You need self motivator that will work hard no matter what to be in this kind of place. But very interesting article.

It sounds like a game developer's dream and Activision's/EA's nightmare. I think Valve makes so much money off of Steam that they really don't have to worry about getting their games out regularly on a set schedule. They make money releasing other peoples games, and when they release their own game they get all the profit from it, they won't have to pay a percentage to anybody. I agree with DarkCobra, there are probably some slackers that don't really do a whole lot, and the game development staff probably isn't as productive as a whole.

Good point. They probably can afford to go this way. I really wonder how much these people get paid for working at valve. I'm sure bonuses are based on which game they worked on having good sales or not.
