This might go a bit beyond retro/classic but what is your favorite Boardgame?

I have been interested to much more interesting and cerebral boardgames.
Things I have played recently.
Catan
Carcassone
Dominion
Dixit
a recent favorite for my wife and I.
Yinsh.
Do you guys have a favorite? What do you guys pull out when you and your friends are tired of just staring too long at the tv? ^^

I'd have to say I like Risk and Catan the most. I don't get a chance to play too many board games these days though.

Was a bit fan of the Heroscape board game, but I recently sold it off because I just don't have the time or the willing participants for long games like that.

I love Risk but finding someone willing to spend several hours actually playing a full game with you is a bit hard. Catan is a great game as well although I was first introduced to it as "Siedler von Catan".

Finding people to play is my problem. If I still lived in my hometown, I would have no problem finding people to play long board games, but I just don't know too many people here in West Virginia.

Heroscape, I remembered that. My best friend got that and we played a bit of it. Never really got into it for me personally though.
Another good board game for me is Epic duels. It is a star wars board game. Where you pick characters and go at it. Good vs evil, and you have a team.

About a year ago I was super into board games that could be played with only two people, but I have a limited selection in the stores here and never really built up the confidence that the game was going to be good to buy any online. I might have to check more into this though now since the topic has reignited my interest!

I don't believe I've ever played Risk, but heard it was fun. Is it two-player capable?
Yes, actually it's......only multiplayer if I'm not mistaken. It's really fun too, though it can be very time consuming. There's a lot of strategy and management involved since, well, it IS a game about taking over the whole world!
My favorites are Risk, Monopoly, and The Game of Life. Seriously, all of them are amazing. I don't often get to play board games with anyone, since my family is almost always busy and my friends think it's too "dweeby", but I do like to play the occassional board game or two every so often. When I was a kid, I nicknamed my daughter "Trashcan" (for some reason), and I literally snuck money under the table to other people, saying that it was a gift from Trashcan. Ah, good times.

GP Monopoly fest 2012, you heard it here first!Looks like monopoly is a clear favorite here. We need to get a game of monopoly going.
Myself, I have always liked monopoly, but I also like Balderdash (not sure if anyone else has ever heard of it) and some of the board game spin-offs of game shows are pretty good too. My family collects board games, sometime I will take a picture of our game closet...

Good to know. I was actually wondering if it required 3 or more players, since a lot of the games I had looked into previously were not two-player capable, because you had to have 3 or more, which sucks. Easy to find two people; half the challenge is already complete since I want to play so that leaves only one more person. Three is hard to get though.

Well it's 2-6 players I think, though I've been able to fit in more as "advisors" of sorts. The more people the better with Risk, but if you only have two that's probably fine.

That would actually be pretty sweet, I wonder if there are any good online monopoly sims we could hijack for a day or something.

I would recommend Monopoly Deal to you guys though, it is basically a card game version of Monopoly but it is much more fast paced and interesting.
Here is a funny graph explaining what I mean ^^

Haha Monopoly... well don't want to sound too arrogant but once you start playing some of the other board games I mentioned you will never go back to Monopoly.

I have played monoply deal already. Many times, my friend bought it and we played it. It was great and I enjoyed it alot. I managed to win 4 games in a row which was pretty amazing. I think both are great though, original monoply is still really addicting and fun.
I almost had a chance to play Carcassone but felt sick so I went home early and didn't stick around to playing it. Maybe another time I'll try it.

If you guys like chess/checkers/othello check out Yinsh because it is exactly that. A really good mixture of all three games ^^

I highly recommend Carcassone. Yeah Monopoly Deal is cool but I like a little less luck and randomness in my games ^^

Well yea, monopoly is a lot of luck. But it is really how you wheel and deal for certain properties to put yourself in the best spot. Plus you have to know when to go all in on building to reap the rewards.
