For some reason, it is felt there needs to be more racing movies. After Fast and the Furious seems to have ended their franchise, it is felt that there needs to be a Need for Speed movie. There isn't much known currently about such a movie but what is known is that Electronic Arts has hired John Gatins to screenwrite for the movie.
There is no current plotline, who might be starring, budget, nothing. All that is known is that it's in the pre-production stages, basically.
John Gatins wrote the screenplay for Real Steel as well as Coach Carter. He hasn't acted in much of anything but he did act in the movie he wrote, Real Steel.
Now, writing a screenplay for something rarely means anything. There's supposedly a screenplay for a The Darkness movie but not much has come out of it. Very few movies actually do make it past such a stage. For now, we'll just have to wait and see.

The Fast and the Furious hasn't ended, there are two more movies in the works. I highly doubt that this will ever get made. It seems like every single video game in existence has been optioned for a movie adaptation, but few ever go anywhere. When they do get made the result is very rarely considered a success.
