Halo is a popular series for doing web based series. But this is no machinima. The web series known as Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn is going to be completely live action (of course with CGI). It will appear in the fall just shortly before Halo 4 itself is to be released. It will be done in five 15-minute blocks.
The story will follow a UNSC recruit. His experiences will tie in Halo 4 to all of the other Halo games, including Reach and ODST supposedly. It will also help the audience catch up with what all happened in previous titles in case they don't, or can't, play them. Sort of like what Mass Effect: Genesis did for new players of the Mass Effect series (it helped those PS3 players who couldn't play the first game but wanted to know what was what in Mass Effect 2).
Frank O'Connor explained a bit further: "We needed a way to ensure there was a way for people to get onboard this universe without feeling intimidated."
Matt McClosky went on record to say: "The Halo 4 web series is not just a marketing piece to promote the game."
In case anyone had any doubts this was just a marketing ploy to make the game juicier for people.
Any further details are sketchy and everyone will just have to wait for further developments.
Will you be watching when it comes out later this fall?
