Today, Sega CEO Mike Hayes announced that he would be departing the company soon. Hayes originally joined Sega in 2004 and oversaw both the US and European divisions of the company. He also played a big part in ushering Sega into the digital distribution era.
Another interesting tidbit is that he helped restore Sega's dominance in Europe by setting up the Sega Racing Studio (which has since been shut down) and acquiring developers such as Creative Assembly (maker of the Total War series) and Sports Interactive (which develops the popular Football Manager series in Europe).
President and Representative Director of Sega NaNaoya Tsurumi had a few positive things to say about Mike Hayes' tenure with the company, saying:
"Mike has achieved a huge amount during his time at Sega and we thank him for the amazing things he has accomplished...[He] is a great character and very passionate about the industry, he helped steer the extraordinary growth of Sega and has built an exceptional team of professionals that will stand us in good stead for the future."
Though Hayes is stepping down as CEO, he will still remain as an advisor for Sega and work in executive and non-executive roles around the industry.
