  1. SCE Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida recently spoke of Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale and its ultimate fate on the most recent episode of IGN's Podcast Beyond. He explained that the game sold over one million units worldwide and that Sony "liked the idea" but that ultimately sales weren't high enough to continue creating DLC or a definite sequel. Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale only had 4 DLC characters released in two separate installments, with the first being Kat and Emmett Graves (from Gravity Rush and Starhawk, respectively), and then Isaac Clarke and Zeus (from Dead Space and God of War) later on. Though Sony doesn't seem to be ruling out another game in the series sometime later on, it does unfortunately appear as if the series is being put on the backburner right now, if not indefinitely. This development was hardly surprising, however, given that Sony had cut ties with developer Superbot back in the end of January. It looks like our dreams of seeing Crash Bandicoot as a playable character in the game won't happen after all. Are you disappointed by the end of DLC support and lack of potential for a sequel for PSASBR?
  2. Uh-oh. Looks like there was a lot more going on behind the scenes than we thought in regards to the SuperBot layoffs. According to SCEA themselves, they have indeed cut ties with the PlayStation All-Star Battle Royal development studio: "Sony Computer Entertainment can confirm that the working agreement with developer SuperBot Entertainment has amicably ended. ... We have had a positive working relationship with this talented studio, and wish them the best of success in their next endeavor." SCEA also mentions that SCE Santa Monica Studio will be in charge of all future DLC releases. SuperBot director's of operations, David Yang, is optimistic about the end of their working relationship with Sony, however: "... the relationship with SCEA has ended on good terms. ... SuperBot Entertainment will continue working on projects that reflect our passion for games. ... We are very excited about beginning the next chapter of our future and invite all of our fans and supporters to follow our journey." Yang comments on the SuperBot layoffs and how much of the studio will remain, as well: "We don't have a reduction plan as of yet, however it is unlikely we can continue with our current work force for an extended period of time. We are still working things out and hope to continue on with as many of us as possible." Let's wish all the best to SuperBot, and hope we see plenty of great games from them in the future!

    Superbot Affected By Layoffs

Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale was one of the PS3's biggest first-party titles to release last year, but despite that, developer Superbot has unfortunately been hit with layoffs as we speak. IGN received word from a Sony spokesperson who commented on the news saying: “SCEA can confirm that SuperBot Entertainment did make a reduction in their workforce today. The studio and SCEA remain committed to supporting PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale post launch, including developing the title“s forthcoming DLC releases in the coming months. The first character pack (including Kat from Gravity Rush and Emmett Graves from Starhawk) will be available for download on February 12 and will be free for the first two weeks. We“ll be sharing news of additional upcoming content soon.” The reduction in the developer's workforce doesn't bode well for the company's long-term future, as past examples of other developers have shown that this usually means that the team was not able to land another big project for everyone to work on. However, the extent of the reduction of Superbot's workforce is unknown, so it's difficult to speculate. And given the fact that All-Stars Battle Royale was not the sales smash that SCEA was hoping for, one has to wonder how much more DLC Superbot will be contracted to put out beyond the upcoming Kat and Emmett DLC on February 12th. Beyond that, what happens with the developer is anyone's guess, but hopefully Sony will give them another a chance to work on a big title before deciding on their ultimate fate. Game Podunk wishes the best to those that were affected by the layoffs at Superbot and hopes for a speedy recovery for them soon. Source: IGN
  4. We've known that Kat and Emmett would be joining the Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale cast of characters as DLC for some time now (the middle of last November, to be exact), but developer Superbot had been coy on a proposed release window for either. But no more! That's right, Superbot has finally outlined when we can expect to play as everyone's favorite heroine from Gravity Rush as well as the main hero in Starhawk, so get ready and mark your calendars because both will be available in this DLC on February 12th. As you can imagine, Kat's moveset is based around her ability to alter and manipulate gravity as well as being nimble and quick whereas Emmett's is based around his signature "Build & Battle" style from Starhawk, which allows him to call down different structures to aid him in the battle; in addition, he has access to a variety of different weapons that will help him to adapt to any circumstance. But what's this? There's also a brand new level that will be available for purchase called "Fearless," and it's a mash-up between Heavenly Sword and WipEout. Superbot says that those who buy it will be able to play it offline and in non-ranked lobbies, but those who don't buy it will still be able to experience it in ranked lobbies online. And as previously announced, both Kat and Emmett will be available to download for free for two weeks after the DLC first arrives, so be sure to nab them quick. Superbot is also promising more All-Star DLC characters in the future as well, and it looks as if they're aiming to announce more in March. Stay tuned! 5. What was once ten is now twenty. A few months ago it was announced that anyone who preordered Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale would receive ten exclusive alternate costumes for the following characters... Big Daddy Heihachi Fat Princess Nathan Drake Kratos Sweet Tooth Sly Cooper Colonel Radec Toro Parappa the Rapper You're still getting those costumes with your preorder, but now you get to look forward to ten more alternate costumes when your game ships this November assuming this bonus branches out to every retailer. There hasn't been any word on what these costumes will be or just what they'll look like, but I'm sure we'll all get confirmation soon enough. To find these ads, you can just look at the images included in this news post. If you would like to see them for yourself however, I've included the way to find them. When you type Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale into Google's search engine the first result will of course be the Playstation All-Stars website. Just keep refreshing until you see the description "Get $5 off and 20 exclusive costumes!" For the second advertisement, go to the Playstation All-Stars page on IMDB.com and just keep refreshing until the Playstation All-Stars preorder ad comes up promising five dollars off and the twenty extra costumes. That seems like proof enough, doesn't it?
  6. At this point, it almost seems as if Superbot is powering through the list of characters that were already leaked, as today Heavenly Sword's Nariko and MediEvil's Sir Daniel Fortesque have both been confirmed to be playable characters in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale. Gamespot had previously posted a gameplay video of the two new characters but the video has now been made private on Youtube. We'll update with pictures and video as soon as Sony makes them public. In the meantime, now that all of the leaked characters have been confirmed, this means that we can finally get on with some (hopefully) brand new character announcements. Crash Bandicoot, the stage is now yours (we hope)...
  7. Only yesterday we were told that Evil Cole McGrath would be joining the roster in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, and already Superbot has announced another: Raiden (from the Metal Gear Solid series). Raiden's appearance makes him the 18th character announced so far, and judging from his gameplay video, he looks to heavily based in close range combat with his sword. And as a side note, the Uncharted 3 level that's shown off in his trailer shows that it's also mixed with Bioshock Infinite elements, from the blimp in the background to the Songbird flying directly behind the fighting ground. IGN also reminded that if the leaked list of characters about a month back or so is 100% accurate, there may only be two more characters to be announced: Heavenly Sword“s Nariko and MediEvil“s Sir Daniel Fortesque. Time will tell if they'll be in the game, but so far the evidence has backed this theory up. Perhaps Superbot will throw us a curveball with a surprise Crash Bandicoot reveal sometime before release? What do you think of Raiden's reveal in the game?
  8. Today, Superbot revealed the next character to join the player roster in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale at the GameStop Managers Show in San Antonio, Texas, and that character is: Evil Cole! If you haven't played the Infamous series yet, Evil Cole is...well, Cole led down the evil path, and his appearance changes to reflect that manner. He harnesses both electrokinesis and pyrokinesis powers and has a much more destructive fighting style than the normal Cole. Evil Cole can attack from afar with bursts of fire and electricity, or attack at close range with incendiary strikes, and can utilize familiar attacks such as the Hellfire Rocket, Tripwire Rocket, and Firebird strike. And if you had to guess, yes, his level 3 special is harnessing the power of The Beast to lay waste to everything on the screen, and his Ionic Drain will absorb the other characters' AP, giving him a headstart next time they respawn. Not bad at all! You'll get your chance at playing Evil Cole firsthand when Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale releases on November 20th. Are you excited that Evil Cole has been announced as a playable character on the roster?
  9. Well, that didn't take long. Earlier, it was announced that Sony would be unveiling two new characters in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale's lineup at EVO today, and now they've been revealed in a video. Say hello to Toro and Tekken's Heihachi. Toro Inoue might be a bit lesser known here in the West, but that's because he's been Sony's Japanese mascot for over a decade. In the game, he operates as a close-range fighter in his Justice form, a ranged specialist in his Torobi form, and wide-area controller in his Oni form. Sounds interesting enough! Heihachi is a bit more of a familiar face for Playstation fans as he's been the face of the Tekken franchise pretty much since its inception. He's also one of five characters to have been in every game in the Tekken series! His key moves such as the Electric Wind God Fist and Twin Pistons will be returning in All-Stars Battle Royale as part of his move-set, and he'll be a powerful close combat fighter as well as having one of the best combo potentials in the entire roster of characters. Also announced was a new stage: the Dojo from Parappa the Rapper where Parappa learned martial arts from Chop Chop Master Onion! Are you pleased with the new character reveals? Who would you like to see revealed next?

  11. If you're hungry for more news regarding Sony's All-Star brawler, you'll be pleased to know that the game finally has a solid release date: October 23! Details on the pricing of PS3 and Vita versions of the game are still coming, so stay tuned. To get you even more excited for its release, they've announced a pre-order incentive in the form of a set of exclusive costumes for every character in the game. And even though there will be plenty of unlockable costumes in the game itself, these exclusive costumes will only be available by pre-ordering the game, so make sure you get on that if this is something that appeals to you. Details on the pricing of PS3 and Vita versions of the game are still coming, so stay tuned. In addition, two more characters will be announced at EVO later today, adding to the existing roster of 8 characters. Who will they be? We'll find out shortly!
