  10. It was just last week that we found out EA was closing Dead Space developer Visceral and cancelling their Star Wars project in one fell swoop. But now, we finally have a better look at what happened behind-the-scenes thanks to a new report from Kotaku's Jason Schrier. In his article, Schrier outlined a number of reasons that led to Visceral's downfall. Contrary to how EA's statement made it sound, their Star Wars project wasn't cancelled due to it being a single-player experience. The truth is that a number of factors contributed to a perfect storm of issues that made the project an insurmountable task. One problem was Visceral's high cost, being situated in California's Bay Area -- one of the most expensive areas to live in the entire US. Another issue had to do with infighting and mismanagement between EA and Visceral, with project lead Amy Hennig having too much control and say over the project, especially in areas that she wasn't as experienced in, such as the gameplay. Apparently, this led to many arguments and debates over certain things in the game, slowing progress considerably. There's much more to the story as well; for the rest, be sure to check out Schrier's piece. It's easily one of the most fascinating (albeit sad and unfortunate) stories in the industry right now. Source: Kotaku What are your thoughts on the troubles at Visceral?
  11. Yoooo! Here it is, the second trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi! MUCH BETTER than the first one, imo, but I guess that's to be expected. Although, many of you will probably notice there's quite a few scenes shown that resemble The Empire Strikes Back (the walkers, the whole darker arc about Rey being tempted by the dark side), which is a little worrisome given that The Force Awakens was a lot like A New Hope (structure-wise). What did you guys think of the new trailer?
  12. If you thought Star Wars Battlefront II was just more of what the last game did, think again. Chief among the new additions to Battlefront II is an actual, original, singe-player campaign that highlights the story of female protagonist Iden Versio and her Inferno Squad, and what happens to the Empire after the events of Return of the Jedi when the second Death Star is destroyed. Take a look at the story sequence below. Impressive visuals aside, the sequence exhibits EA Motive's impressive efforts to replicate a cinematic feel to the story, and the inclusion of the Emperor's messenger droid is both creepy and a neat addition to the universe at the same time. It's a good indication of what the overall story will be like, so if you're a big Star Wars fan, you might not want to miss this one. Star Wars Battlefront II is slated to release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 17. What are your thoughts on the story scene trailer for Battlefront II?
  13. If you missed the news last week, Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World) was yanked as writer and director of Star Wars Episode IX. Rumors say that it was because he was difficult to work with and was a dictator on set. Anyhoo, there was also word that Rian Johnson (currently the director of Episode VIII) would take over and direct one more movie, but today Lucasfilm made it official that JJ Abrams will be taking the reins for one last time. J.J. Abrams, who launched a new era of Star Wars with The Force Awakens in 2015, is returning to complete the sequel trilogy as writer and director of Star Wars: Episode IX. Abrams will co-write the film with Chris Terrio. Star Wars: Episode IX will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Abrams, Bad Robot, and Lucasfilm. “With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy,” said Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. My first thought upon seeing this was, "Oh, well I guess that makes sense." I mean, ideally Johnson would have been the best pick since the movie is picking up from where he left off, but reports say that he didn't want to do another one, likely because it's a herculean effort and he probably would want some time to rest (which, production has to start right away, pretty much). I think Abrams is a pretty solid pick; The Force Awakens was pretty good, but now we'll get to see if that was a fluke or if Abrams is the real deal and can deliver a Star Wars film that doesn't adhere to the same formula as a past movie in the franchise. What do you guys think of Abrams being the new director for Episode IX?
  14. If you didn't check out Twitter or the web at all this weekend (or were hiding under a rock), some pretty big news came out of Disney's annual D23 Expo today. HERE WE GOOOOO Kingdom Hearts 3 is coming in 2018, Toy Story World announced YEAH. So that happened. If you're interested in more about this, click here to read about it. Avengers: Infinity War first teaser footage is said to be pretty insane YEAH. This too. Wow. So, they didn't release any footage online (only to the people actually there at D23), but i09 did a writeup on what they saw, and... it sounds like one of the craziest things they've done in comic book movies yet. Read the synopsis of what happens here. TRAILER SPOILER: THANOS THROWS A PLANET WITH THE POWER OF THE INFINITY GAUNTLET. And here's Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Holland talking about the fan reaction to it -- Also, they revealed that the Black Order (a group of four powerful beings who serve Thanos) will also be in the movie. They were adapted from the Marvel event comic "Infinity", which happened a few years back. Seriously though, this movie sounds nuts, and I'm ridiculously excited for it. Live-action Aladdin cast officially confirmed; about to get jiggy with it I'm not huge into Aladdin, but this was cool to hear. The three main cast members were officially confirmed by Disney and are: Newcomer Mena Massoud as Aladdin. Naomi Scott (the Pink Ranger in the 2017 Power Rangers film) as Jasmine. Will Smith (yes, THAT Will Smith!) as the Genie. Guy Ritchie is directing. But you probably already knew that. All of the Disney Princesses will be in Wreck-It Ralph 2 and voiced by all of the original voice actresses that are still alive YEAH. Thought that was a neat bit, honestly. More Ming-Na Wen can only be a good thing. The bit is also supposed to be pretty self-aware, with the princesses acting like normal people and very non-princess-like. Sounds funny. First footage of live-action Lion King movie was shown, live-action Dumbo is talked about Again, first footage was shown to the audience at D23 but not released online to everyone else (boo). Apparently they showed photo-realistic shots of African landscape, lots of different animals, and then ended on the note with Rafiki raising Simba into the air. Jon Favreau is directing, if you haven't heard. He said they're incorporating some VR technology in the making of it. Actors wearing the headsets can see the virtual landscape as they're acting. Sounds intriguing. Oh hey, Dumbo was talked about too. Tim Burton is directing. Dumbo's cast sounds killer; includes Eva Green, Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, and Colin Farrell. It's currently slated for March 29, 2019. Star Wars-themed area at Disney Land is now called Star Wars: Galaxy Edge, area and attractions detailed The whole thing honestly sounds pretty cool. From what I can gather, they want it to feel like you're actually entering the Star Wars universe and have you experience different things and to have a journey as you make your way through it. If they can pull it off, it's probably going to be pretty amazing. Here's a teaser video for it. Also, if you want more in-depth details on the attractions, check out the post on Starwars.com Live-action A Wrinkle In Time got its first trailer I never read the book (go ahead... boo me), so I'm a little lost as to what's happening in this movie. BUT it's directed by Ava Duvernay (of Selma fame). It's got Oprah in it too. And Chris Pine. And Mindy Kaling in what appears to be a non-comedic role. And some other young actors I don't recognize. It's coming March 9, 2018. Might be cool, I guess. And I think that's it? If I forgot something, I'll try to update later today. Anyhow, what do you guys make of the news? What did you find most exciting?
  15. Man, did they really show the first teaser for Star Wars: The Last Jedi already? I thought they'd wait until May 4th to do so. But, I guess Star Wars Celebration is as good an excuse as any to show it as well. At any rate, here it is if you haven't seen it yet. So, real talk: I actually don't care for this teaser much. I guess the better trailer that will show more is still coming later on this year, but I think it largely is not a great teaser even. The most important bit this teaser shows is that Luke has a bit of a changed perspective on the Force at this point, and that everything that has happened with Kylo Ren (and the Knights of) probably has led him to believe that the Jedi need to disappear just as much as the Sith do if balance in the Force can be achieved. That's interesting. Everything else... wasn't? There was little excitement to me because everything they've shown, we've largely seen before. Or more accurately, it's too similar to what we've seen in the last movie. It also wastes a ton of time in the first half of the teaser with Rey and Luke. Honestly, I didn't expect them to shown tons of footage, but I expected more than we got. The first non-teaser trailer we got for The Force Awakens was pretty good, so it's a shame this didn't follow suit. Anyhow, I'm still looking forward to the movie. What'd you guys think of the trailer?
  16. I don't keep up with every video that HISHE (How It Should Have Ended) puts out on Youtube, but I do usually pay attention when they do big recent movies; they seem to be at their best when they do Star Wars and super hero movies anyhow. Funny thing is they actually bring out quite a few plot holes in Rogue One that I forgot about while watching it. Like after watching this, I'm reminded that I can't believe that... Do you guys agree with HISHE's points?
  17. LOL just kidding! No one is crazy enough to give Jar jar his own movie but you gotta admit this fan made poster is pretty epic. Looks pretty sweet right? Would you watch a movie like this?
  18. It's gonna be good week, ya'll. First, No Man's Sky is finally coming out, and second, Rogue One is supposedly getting a new trailer on Thursday (woop woop)! I'm actually pretty stoked to see what new footage they'll show. Hoping there's some semblance of a starfighter battle in this one since there really wasn't much of one in The Force Awakens. Also, I'm thinking the new trailer will end with a brief shot of Darth Vader, which would be cool. Anyone else looking forward to the new trailer?
  19. There's been an awakening... have you felt it? If not, you probably missed the biggest news of the day - Star Wars: The Force Awakens is getting the LEGO treatment! Read on to find out more about it as well as news on a new Humble Bundle, the weekly PlayStation Store update, and more. The Force Awakens within LEGO Star Wars in June Although it technically leaked last night, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment revealed today that a new LEGO Star Wars is indeed in development and will chronicle the events in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Interestingly enough, it will also contain material that bridges the gap between Return of the Jedi and TFA. Perhaps they'll be adapting material from the Star Wars Aftermath book? We'll see when the game releases on every video game platform on June 28. SEGA bringing 7th Dragon III Code: VFD to 3DS in North America SEGA seems to be on fire as of late with their announcements. Not only are they bringing over SEGA 3D Classics Collection and Valkyria Chronicles Remaster, but they just announced that 7th Dragon III Code: VFD will be coming to 3DS in North America this Summer. If you follow the RPG scene pretty closely, this is a pretty big one that many North American fans did not think would ever get localized, so this is definitely exciting news. For more details about the game, hit the source link below. Source: SEGA Blog New Humble Bundle Offers Ubisoft Games The Humble Bundle is back and this time it's offering... Ubisoft games? 20. Yooooo, So I'm sure some of you have seen the movie by now, so I thought it'd be a good time to open a thread to discuss it! I saw it last night, and... oh my gosh, people, I love it so much. I legit had tears in my eyes at several points in the movie; so so good. Best movie of 2015, hands-down, imo. As usual, here are my thoughts on it! SPOILERS AHEAD. IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE, TURN BACK NOW *peeks head out* We good? Okay, then... - My whole theater whooped and cheered when the opening crawl came on. It was an amazing experience! - BB-8 stole the show! He's the next-generation R2-D2 and he's extremely awesome. JJ Abrams did an amazing job infusing him with personality. My favorite scene with him was when he gave Finn a thumbs up using his torch/lighter. So good! - Finn was a lot funnier than I thought he would be. I also found that sort of strange since he was conditioned to follow orders and such, but he had a lot of personality. He also had some legit good moments; among my favorites include when he asked Rey if she had a boyfriend and when Kylo Ren told him that Anakin/Luke's lightsaber belonged to him and then he said "Come and get it." My theater roared with applause and cheering when he said that. So good. - Movie had excellent pacing. Like, even though it uses the same formula that A New Hope used in its story, they didn't skip a beat the entire time. - The opening is probably my favorite of all seven movies so far. I love the way the Star Destroyer blocks out the planet from view. Great stylistic choice on Abram's part. - Part of the reason the movie was so good was because it had some great setpieces. The part where Rey flies the Millenium Falcon on Jakku was excellent. - As soon as Han Solo went out onto that platform to confront his son, you knew it was over for him. Still, kinda sad to see Harrison Ford go. - I thought Adam Driver did a great job as Kylo Ren; it was interesting to see him convey a villain who was still some child-like (with the tantrums he threw when something went wrong; slicing up an entire room with his lightsaber). I don't think his masked-voice is 100% ideal, but I have to admit I did warm up to it over the course of the movie. - Lupita Nyong'o's character was excellent. Something tells me they're going to make her into the next Yoda character. And yes, I know she isn't a Jedi (or maybe she is, and she's just trying to hide it?). - Was anyone else surprised that Luke didn't have any lines? I thought for sure he'd say at least one thing. - I was slightly disappointed that the Resistance only had X-Wings to fight with at the end, but they're probably saving the really cool ships for the next two movies. We'll see. - Any guesses as to who Rey's parents are? If you want things potentially spoiled, here's my theory- - I'm still very intrigued at who Snoke might be. I also don't think he's gigantic; I think they project him that big to intimidate everyone else, and only Kylo Ren knows his real size. Willing to bet he's actually somewhat smaller, maybe even Yoda-sized. We'll see. There's also a theory that he might be... And that's all I got for now. What did you guys think? Let me know! P.S. Here's some great post-Force Awakens reading if you want to read up on more stuff about the movie Vox - Star Wars: The Force Awakens: Let's try to solve the new trilogy's biggest mystery i09 - All the Stuff From The Force Awakens Trailers That Wasn't in the Movie Rolling Stone - Skywalker Speaks: Mark Hamill on returning to 'Star Wars'
  21. YOU GUYS This might be the funniest thing I've seen in 2015. No joke. Check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QKRKfg6kpA That must have been crazy painstaking to piece all those clips together too! Crazy that they have at least one or two instances of a clip saying every word from the song across all of the first six movies as well, haha.
  22. A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… Six Star Wars Games TO PREPARE YOU FOR THE FORCE AWAKENS It's an exciting time for Star Wars fans all across the galaxy. Although the movie series seemed to have ended, the impossible has happened. With the franchise now owned by the Disney Empire, the evil lord Darth Abrams has directed Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. As everyone races toward the nearest movie theater to watch the long-awaited sequel, Jedi Knight Jordan Haygood makes a list of six of the best Star Wars games ever made… Number VI Star Wars: Battlefront II - PlayStation 2, PSP, Xbox, PC - Here“s a series that has been talked about a bit more recently than the others on account of a reboot recently being released. The 2015 Star Wars: Battlefront, while very pretty, unfortunately ended up disappointing fans. The first two games in the series, however, are still great. Especially Star Wars: Battlefront II, which not only features a better story, but lacks a few of the problems that plagued the original. Hopefully the reboot gets a sequel that can top the original game“s sequel, but until then, the second Battlefront remains the best. Number V Super Star Wars (Trilogy): Super Star Wars - SNES, Virtual Console (Wii), PS4, PS Vita - Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back - SNES, Virtual Console (Wii) - Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi - SNES, Virtual Console (Wii), Game Boy, Sega Game Gear - It didn“t seem right to choose just one of the three Super Star Wars games for this list, so I cheated and chose all three. Based on the original trilogy of films, the series began with a title simply called Super Star Wars for what else than the Super Nintendo. Then came Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, with Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi following closely behind. It“s a fun trilogy of games with some sweet 16-bit versions of classic Star Wars tunes, so if you at least have a Wii lying around, I recommend picking ”em up on the Virtual Console. If you don“t have one, you can get the first one on PS4 and Vita too. Number IV Star Wars: TIE Fighter - DOS, Windows (CD-ROM and digitally through GOG.com), Macintosh, Linux (through GOG.com) - Following up the fantastic Star Wars: X-Wing, Star Wars: TIE Fighter is not just a better space-combat simulator. It“s probably one of the best space-combat simulators out there. But maybe I“m just saying that because Star Wars. And because you“re on the same side as Darth Vader. Either way, TIE Fighter is still a fantastic game with a lot to love. It“s a bit difficult to find physical copies of the game these days, but thankfully GOG.com has it up in the cloud for download. So, like, go play it. Number III Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II - PC, Steam - The second entry in one series and the first entry in another, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II is a first-person shooter that does a lot of things right. While the original Dark Forces was what some might consider a Doom game with a Star Wars skin (not a bad thing), Dark Forces II improved greatly upon that idea to create a more fleshed out Star Wars experience. Mainly by giving the protagonist a lightsaber. And Force powers. In the end, those two things are really all you need. Number II Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader - GameCube - Among all of the launch titles the GameCube had to offer, the best one just so happened to be a Star Wars game. No Jedi mind tricks involved in that statement. Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader is simply a fantastic game. And not only is it arguably the best GameCube launch title, but it“s also one of the best Star Wars games out there. It looks great, it plays great, and with its inclusion of some of the films“ most memorable moments, Rogue Squadron II is all you really need for your Star Wars air-combat fix. If you can get your hands on a copy of the GameCube disc, that is. Number I Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - Xbox, PC, Mac, iOS, Android - Perhaps the Citizen Kane of Star Wars games and the holy grail of licensed games in general, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was praised heavily when it was released and is praised heavily still. Many would consider KotOR to be the definitive Star Wars game. Me included. The fantastic story with an incredible twist, the characters you enjoy getting to know, the gameplay you won“t get tired of, the innovative RPG elements, a light side/dark side morality system that impacts the story; this isn“t just a great Star Wars game, but a masterpiece of gaming. On a scale of I - X, how excited are you for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens? What other Star Wars games would you consider to be among the best?
  23. If you haven't seen it yet, the international trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens released yesterday. It's about 70-80% the same as the trailer we got in the US, though some new scenes and dialogue have been circulated in. Check it out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdAUiyeJMFQ What do you guys think? Better than the US trailer? And did you spot anything new?
  24. Has anyone seen this yet? It's pretty funny because Abrams ends up pretty much not answering anyone's question, and his reaction to George Lucas' question is pretty priceless as well. You can tell he was definitely trying to deflect about Darth Vader's grandchildren, lol. Also, I was slightly surprised to learn he was only involved with the pilot episode of Lost. I guess people thought he was more involved because his production company ran the show? On a down note, it is kind of sad that he treated the whole thing as a joke (well, it mostly was but still). I was kind of curious to know what else was going on with Cloverfield too, but he never answered.
